How come there are " " in the display bar across the top of my IE7 window instead of the name of the page I am viewing

Can anyone figure this out or tell me how to fix this

Thanks.

That character normally means that the browser cannot decode the character data into a type set by the page.

If the page has UTF-8 set as it's enctype (encoding type) but them data on the page is in in, for example, ISO 859-1, there would be a conflict as some character element in the ISO charater set do not exist in the UTF character set.

Did you design the page, or is it just a webpage you are browsing

Any page that I am viewing shows those little boxes at the top of the window. It started when I upgraded to IE7 through windows update. This is actually the second time I upgraded. The first time did the same thing. When I use IE (No Add-Ons), I don't have this problem.

Have you manually added any add-ons to IE

One way to find out if it is an add-on is to go to Tools > Manage Add-Ons and disable them all.

Now check a page. If it is fine, go back to the add-ons list and start enabling them one by one, each time checking the page.

When the character blocks appear you'll know which add-on is causing the issue. You can then download fresh copy of it.

If you download a fresh copy and the error persists, post back what add-on you think it might be, if any.
