    - Cannot register as InternetShortcut ContextMenuHandler Rob, Thank you for jumping in to help. The links that you provided apply to code that extend Internet Explorer after it is launched. My dilemma is before that, in a gray area between the browser and the Windows shell. Both Windows XP and Vista have stopped displaying the menu selection that my ContextMenuHandler has registered to offer when a user right-clicks on an internet shortcut (URL extension), the same type of shortcut you might save to your desktop. This is not an installation issue. Windows updates have stopped the functionality that was already installed. I wanted to try here first. Although it is the shell that displays the conext menu selections when you right-click on an icon that it displays, I am guessing that this new behavior was precipitated or requested from the IE development team. I'm going to try re-posting this in the Vista Shell UI forum. I will definitely continue to monitor this thread, too, just in case the UI forum sends me back here. Thanks again, Rob!     - IE7, OE6 Printing problems with headers Same thing happens with IE7 and Outlook 2003. I have a customer with a similar problem, and can replicate it. IE7, Outlook 2003 and Exchange 2003 server (running on SBS 2003) Some incoming HTML emails will not print the headers at all. If I convert the HTML mail to plain text (only option) and send it back to myself, the problem disappears; if I then convert the plain text mail to HTML and mail it back to myself, it prints perfectly. Thus, it has to be either something in the incoming HTML mail or it doesn't happen for the internal domain. The only clue I have is that the incoming HTML mails might contain extended character sets. Printing the same emails from Outlook Web Access also shows the same problem - not surprising, because as far as I can tell, Outlook 2003 uses IE for printing of HTML mails (but not Plain or Rich Text). I deduced this a long time ago because if you print an email with a file attachment, plain text and rich text print the file attachment - icon and name, but HTML mails don't (but do from Outlook Express).     - Any work around for "window.prompt()" in IE7 This is a lame excuse for a bad implementation. 1.) Anyone fooled by the prompt() dialog as a loging page.... yikes, I hope they don't use their credit cards online anywhere. 2.) The prompt dialog is a HORRIBLE dialog in the IE browser. Several recommendations were made to make it look better, make it more secure, and fix several bugs all went unanswered when IE7 was released. 3.) It would be much easier, to create a DHTML popup, that looked *exactly* like the basic authentication dialog if a hacker wanted to fool users into submitting data to the wrong hands, and quite honestly, it would be able to slip under the radar quite easily. It would have taken a developer no more than 30 minutes to fix the prompt dialog completely and avoid this entire mess, but fixing IE wasn't on the menu for IE7, just adding features that were missing from IE compared to other modern browsers.     - How to turn off the prompt for Active Content? Am having similar yet different problem with Active Content warning. Every webpage on my local drive that I attempt to use as home page triggers an Active Content warning every time, no matter how simple the html is. I've even tried a blank html page as home page (no text between <body></body>) and still get an active content warning. Opening other webpages from local drive does not trigger warning, until the page is set as "home", then it triggers warning when next opened.     - IE7 Timeout when uploading using sharepoint I am trying to upload a pdf 1MB to Sharepoint server 2001. The green progress bar stops half way and the the page cannot be displayed appears. What I have noticed is that this upload is ok if I use an old version of internet explorer As soon as I click upload in an old version of IE I can see in the status connection that data is being transfered. But If I do this in ie7 then the status icon shows NO activity. Its like IE7 has someonething like the phising filter running.. Looks like IE7 Timesout after 30 secs. The only /> in the file were for <br />, which I replaced with <br>,j just in case. The problem is still around. The intermittent nature of it is the most confusing part.     - Browser Extensions in IE7 Vista I found out the reason why this error occurs. My extension is a DLL that is registered during installation by running a batch file. The DLL is registered using Regsvr32 with the "silent mode" switch. Unfortunately, Regsvr32 doesn't register properly when UAC is turn on eventhough I am already logged in as Administrator when I ran the installation. Turning UAC off, I was able to register the DLL. Microsoft needs to evaluate/balance the need for UAC as a preventive security measure and at the same time the hassle it creates for Windows Users migrating to Vista. Turning UAC off isn't the permanent answer. Software is suppose to get easier and not harder to use.     - window.onresize in IE7 causes infinite loop on window.onload This is a flaw or bug in IE7. I have run across the same problem, and spent three hours nailing it down. Here it is as far as I can tell: IE7 improperly fires off a 'Browser Resized' event when the first dynamically generated content region is made visible. What I mean by 'the first', is the first one that appears throws this event. I say 'dynamically generated content REGION', because it doesn't happen to inline content, only content generated by javascript. To make things worse, I haven't been able to make a simplified test case for this so I don't know if my explanation is 100% accurate, but I *HAVE* found a work around. Work Around: In my case, I do everything through an onload event. In the onload event, BEFORE everything else, I simply created a new floating content region with nothing in it. It looks like: newobject = document.createElement('DIV'); if (newobject) { newobject.id = 'blankregion'; newobject.style.position = 'absolute'; newobject.style.visibility = 'visible'; newobject.style.display = 'block'; newobject.innerHTML = ' '; document.body.appendChild(newobject); } This simply creates a blank floating   out there on your page, BUT it seems to prevent the onresize events from being fired off over and over. Hi,

can anyone tell me how to get the LocalLow directory using SHGetSpecialFolderPath. Using the constant "CSIDL_LOCAL_APPDATA" I get a path to the appdata directory.

Is there a constant to get the LocalLow directory If there is one what happens on other operating systems like Windows XP or Windows 2000

You need to use SHGetKnownFolderPath API with FOLDERID_LocalAppDataLow (http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms647783.aspx).

Quoting from that documentation:

"Callers using this function must have Administrator privileges."

Not very useful if you are inside a low process, looking for somewhere safe to write....

This does work from low clients, I just tested it using a simple test binary. I will bring this discrepancy in the documentation to the appropriate folks. Thanks for flagging it.
