hi,

I just download and install IE7. Don't like the tab browsing thing and try to revert back to familar IE6 menu bar etc.

Manage to get back classic menu on TOP of address bar (which IE7 never provide such option) after some google search.

Tries to remove all icons in command bar. But after restart a new IE7, the defaults icons came and is quite annoying. No matter how many times I remove, they will still come back.

Discover the command bar cannot "move" to be inline (at least) with address bar even toolsbar is unlocked.

Also unable to find any solution to disable or hide it.

Any one knows how to disable/hide the Command Bar

Thank you.

Agree completely. Plus a few more annoying things...

  1. The tabs might dissappear but the goofy "stars" for favorites and "add to favorites" still show.
  2. And, one can't remove/disable the "live search" box/feature. One MUST have a search engine.
  3. What's with the "X" icon to "stop" (loading) It's WAY too similar to the "close" box.

MS has gotten too slick and forgotten about simple core functionality. Not sold at all on IE7 and will look to other vendors now. Will also tell friends to enure they can back it out before installing.

I just tried out by myself:

1. regedit

2. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\CommandBar

3. Create a new DWORD called Enabled with Value 0

4. close regedit and oben IE7 --> Commandbar is hidden!

I tried one of these fixes. Not this one though. I'm back with IE 6. Is there a way to get one customized bar like I have with IE 6

Wonderful! Thanks so much. That stupid command bar was driving me nuts. I could get rid of all the commands on it except that star and the smaller star. But as soon as I would open a new page, it came back! Your solution worked great!!

It seems zio-steve has found an way to hide or disable the command bar IE7 but i have a problem.

I can't find CommandBar under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer. Is this normal and is there something i can do about it

I agree- I don't like the Command bar either, because it takes up so much space and can't be moved around like the other toolbars. My Address bar takes up a whole line and can't be shortened or moved either. I found Command bar in Regedit, but I don't know what you mean by making a new DWORD. Do you mean to delete all the items under Command bar in regedit I don't want to change it if I don't know exactly what to do. When I went under Help in the Menu bar, it took me to a place where I could download a small program that removes the Search bar and another one that moves the Menu bar to the top. IE7 is supposed to help people with small screens, but it doesn't help when the Command bar and the Address bar cannot be shortened or moved. The customize Command bar only removes icons. If I could at least put the Menu bar on the same line as the Address bar, that would be much better. I am sorry that I clicked Ok when IE6 asked to do an update. I did not expect it to change so much. Thanks for your help.

Hi, I've tried the fix mentioned above but I am also having a problem implementing it. I can't find CommandBar under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer.

There is a CommandBar entry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\LowRegistry and I tried changing the value to 0 here but it doesn't seem to do anything to my Browser. I'm trying to setup a Kiosk type machine and want certain functions hidden, including the Favourites buttons. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Works Great!  Thanks Zio-Steve for letting me have my 1/2 inch of desktop back!

Yes, it's normal. All you have to do about it is to create an entry like that. Just right-click "Internet Explorer" entry, and click "New"=>"Key"; name it "CommandBar" and continue the process.

I did do this but still have the Command Bar showing (did restart everything just in case). I have 2 files in my Command Bar folder - 1)Default & 2)Toolband width. I added the new DWORD as you instructed. Do I need to eliminate any of the other files in this folder Thks for any help you can give - I really don't like or need the command bar.

In Vista: Theres no Internet Explorer or CommandBar in the Reg. So you have to create 2 items:

1-Internet Explorer:

a-Start regedit

b-Go in order: HKEY_CURRET_USER, software, microsoft

2-Create new entry called "Internet Explorer" Then right click it & choose new, Key: Commandbar.

3-Click on Commandbar, click on the right side of the reg, right click, new Dword & name it Enabled.

4-Double click Enabled & the value should be 0

5-Restart IE7.

You can also remove the Search Box:

Click on the Start menu and choose Run.
Now type in ¡®gpedit.msc¡¯. This opens the Group Policy editor.
Under ¡®User Configuration¡¯ click the ¡®+¡¯ next to ¡®Administrative Templates¡¯. Drill down further by opening ¡®Windows Components¡¯ and ¡®Internet Explorer¡¯ in the same way.
Once you¡¯re there, look in the right hand pane for an entry ¡®Prevent the Internet Explorer search box from displaying¡¯.
Double click on that to open it up. In there click the ¡®enable¡¯ button Click OK and the search box should be gone. You may need to close IE7 and reopen it before you see the change.

Easy as apple pie, eh!!!
