    - Activating dynamically added ActiveX Control (<object>) Hello, I have a problem activating ActiveX controls that have been added after the page has been loaded. Currently my page loads with a flash object, which doesn't require activation (thanks to the known javascript workaround ). I want to remove that object and replace it with a new one after the page has been loaded (based on user interaction). For this I'm using the .innerHTML method and it works fine, except that the control requires to be clicked on to be activated. I'm guessing the documented workaround only works when it's used while the page is still loading. So my question is: is there any way to activate an ActiveX control (or just my <object> ) that has been added after the page has been loaded Many thanks. The only workaround we've found so far is to place the root URL of your page into IE7's "Truted Site List" Tools (Menu) -> Internet Options -> Security (tab) -> Trusted Sites (icon) -> Sites (button) Fill in the web site (http:// or https:// ) and then click on "Add". If you're adding a http:// and not https:// site, you'll need to uncheck the "Require server verification" box. Clearly, this is not a solution for non-intranet applications since it isn't reasonable to ask end-users to add you to their trusted sites list. If you find a better solution, please post it.     - Can't get IHTMLChangeSink::Notify to fire By chance, I have been using IChangeSink in the past, and as far as I remember did not have any problems. I used it to track when document is changed; apart from couple of unexplained calls to Notify (hwne design mode is activated, for example), it works as one would expect. Did you use the actual Change Log, or just Notify Notify itself works fine, I agree (presuming it fires OK). It is the rest of it I find somewhat perplexing.     - Applying Style with Javascript Hi, I'm looking for some insight into the processing that goes into the rendering engine for IE. I have a javascript function that loops through the rows of a table and assigns alternating colors. I call the function from the OnLoad event of the Body and everything works fine. I have AJAX functions that update the underlying data for the table and I rebuild the table. As a final step, I re-run the function that formats the alternating colors. I have tested the function in this mode and the function runs correctly, however, the color changes do not appear on the screen. It's almost as if there is a paint event that is missed somehow when executing the function from an event other than the OnLoad of the Body. Now, some really strange behavior is that if I put an alert() statement in the function, the repaint processes just fine and I get my alternating colors even when I call the function from events other than the OnLoad().     - Directory problems Hello, I figured I'd ask this question here because its somewhat related to internet explore. I'm running Vista on the only administrative user account on my system. When I try to access IE's temporary internet files directory: (C:\Users\%USERNAME%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files) I get an "Access is denied" error returned . This seems to be a new thing with Vista, I know I was able to access this directory in later versions of windows.     - Working with the dot net 2.0 WebBrowser control I had originally created a post here http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx PostID=1027977&SiteID=1&mode=1 where I was trying to figure out some issues in dealing with this control, and using it as a "chat interface" related object. The items I was trying to figure out were related to disabling the internal IE menu stuff and using a context sensitive menu. I did receive one answer that I am exploring (thanks again Martin) but I am still having problems grasping why the most common of items, "copy and paste", are causing me so much grief. :) I admit... I am not an "html" person, although I do understand the generic concepts of simple html elements. I am sure that once I get into stepping into the solution that Martin supplied for the custom context menu will help me figure out a few things related to dealing with html links, I am still stuck on the copy/paste side of things. With the internal menu gone, and a context senstivie menu in place, how can I determine if the user has "selected text", so that I can enable a menu option to "copy" Even using the built in menu, I can highlight text displayed, press Control-C... but nothing is copied. Is there maybe an additional html tag that I need to put into the control Is there a tag that I may be using that is turning that ability off Once I turn the internal menu off and use the context menu, how can I get just the basic "Control-C" to work without having to use the menu and right clicking Since the very basics of "Control-C" does *nothing* now (internal menu used, right click, select copy, DOES work).... scratching my head... why does this have to be so difficult. :) By the way, this is a VS2005 VB dot net 2.0 application I am working in.     - jscript causes IE SP1 crash I've developed a web application in VS.net 2005 and it is using telerik controls (Its a set of third party controls with enhanced UI features). It works fine some of the client pc's with IE 6.0 SP1 and in some of the client machines it causes browser window to crash. The error message which is displayed includes the following signature: AppName: iexplore.exe AppVer: 6.0.2800.1106 ModName: jscript.dll ModVer: 5.6.0.6626 Offset: 00024d17 Any pointers will be helpful to solve the issue. (which you already have) Call this hWndBrowser Step 2 - Iterate through the band objects of the browser window looking for a match for the toolbar (band) you are interested in. The difficult part here is the match criteria as the same class name "ToolbarWindow32" is used by different IE toolbar/bands eg 1)the standard button toolbar 2) address bar and 3) links toolbar.     - IWebBrowser2's memory not deallocated I have a windows service that generates the thumbnails of webpages. The service receives the urls of the webpages via COM requests. The service uses the COM object of the IWebBrowser2 interface to generate the thumbnails. Everything with the service seems to go fine except it leaks large amounts of memory. Upon close inspection, I realized the memory allocated by the IWebBrowser object was not being released. The code of the service automatically releases all references to the IWebBrowser object. In addition, I intentionally decrement the reference count of the object until IUnknown::Release returned zero. However, even after the IWebBrowser object is deleted, it seems that the memory it uses keeps lingering. Does anyone know what I need to do to deallocate the lingering memory Thanks!     - Getting started writing a plugin I saw the other poster's question about writing a plugin and I saw all the responses, including the shameless plug That is exactly the sort of information that I am after, but my plugin is very different than the one described there. I would like to write a plugin which can be embedded into an Internet Explorer browser page using the <embed> tag, like Flash, RealPlayer, or MediaPlayer can be. My plugin is pretty simple, I don't need to display videos or anything like that. I just have to be able to display images and text and capture some mouse clicks. This just occurred. My IE7 will not connect to any web site and the diagnose button displays this message, Res://ieframe.dll/dnserror.htm# . I was on the phone with my cable provider, Cox, and they tried a reconfig and ping and it would not respond. They said it's an Microsoft problem. I can get on the net with Outlook and Firefox but not IE. I have a Motorola surfboard connection, no wireless connections
Any assistance I would need step by step instructions.

Exactly the same problem here. It seems to disable a lot of software that (I assume) must use some IE provided functionality to connect to the net. This includes WinSCP, OneCare and Tag&Rename among many others.

Bizzarely, IETab in FIirefox is still able to connect to the net perfectly!

Any help on this matter would be greatly appreaciated as it has rendered my Windows box near to useless.
