Hi!

I lately found out that you can connect your xbox 360 controller to PC. Although I have a wireless controller. Without wanting to buy the wireless reciever I looked for other methods. I the found out that you can connect your wireless controller to the PC using the recharging cable for the rechargable battery pck, although this hasn't been working for me. When I press the Xbox guide button it flashes and flashes but the computer isn't picking up on this. Can anyone help!

Thanks!

Paul

Hi Paul.

Are you running Vista or XP Do you see a USB message when you plug it in to the PC Does it try to install drivers

I think the charging cable only supplies power -- It doesn't actually connect the device to the USB hub.

Thanks for taking the time to reply!

I'm running Windows XP, it's USB so the icon for installing a driver comes up. I don't have a disc for the controller. So I'll either have to buy a wired controller or the receiver

I stand corrected. The controller is discoverable over the USB charger.

However, I was not able to get it working last night, even after downloading drivers.

I tried "Xbox 360 Controller for Windows" and "Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver for Windows". I suspect the device ID's are slightly different, and these drivers did not work.

I'm afraid your back to the original options of purchasing either an "Xbox 360 Controller for Windows" or the Wireless Gaming Receiver.

This is all well and good as long as you don't care if you have trigger buttons or not in MANY PC games. I called MS about the hardware and driver problems and when they told me the driver worked just fine I told them it did not and pointed them to resources that have fixed the trigger buttons. I am using that driver now but of course that means I have no working headphone, when I need the headphone I roll back the driver and just go without the trigger buttons. I play Final Fantasy XI

I am very disappointed in the controller itself (I had to return 2 for defective left analog stick and 1 for defective headphone jack). This is a $60 slap in the face and noone would take it back for refund opened.
The controller is fine now fix the driver Please.

1.The $20 Wireless Adapter will connect 4 controllers to my pc on one adapter, with fully functioning triggers incld. precision analog control on both triggers in XP & Vista...

Other Than That

A. I tried the same thing as u on XP and Vista and had same problem, i then dissected my charging cable, having already purchased the external dual battery charger, and it's wired only for the power supply to work properly, not all the wires are there, only 3 of 4-5 (depends on 1or2 grnds) are. THIS METHOD WILL NOT WORK.

B. I borrowed a Wired controller from a friend who was stupid enough to by the Xbox 360 basic then later the HDD, It works Perfect with automatic driver install on vista & XP with DL Driver.

C. Are u so cheap u won't even buy a $20 adapter, i found mine for $12.99, and it will connect 4 controllers to my pc on one adapter, with fully functioning triggers incld. precision analog control on both triggers...

D. The wired one doesn't have the working triggers for me and I have never heard of losing analog trigger support with the $20 Wireless Adapter...

I don't mean to Offend, Just to STRESS my points...

I hope this helps at least someone, and I will answer more about this and other Questions (if I know about them) for anyone, as long as i have time at SilentCrusher@silentcrusher.com , I love helping others... (with computers)

Well, I had this receiver for a bit now, and i never notice any problems until recently. I connected to the pc flawlessly and the controller worked fine. After linking it to the xbox 360, the controller doesnt link with the pc anymore, just flashes. I've tried manythings to get it to work, but appperently theres nothing i can do to reconnect it. Any suggestions would be really appreciated.

You have to explicitly reconnect the wireless controller if you want to use it again with a PC adapter and not with the xbox 360. You have to make sure first that after you turn on your controller that the xbox is off, so that the controller is not connected to anything, hit the connect buttons both on the PC adapter and the xbox controller (note on the xbox controller it's a small button on the side where the triggers and the power cord connection are located). And it should hook up fine. I do this myself on a regular basis.
