2> Is it possible to convert MPEG-2 video to .WMV

3> Is it possible to instrease the resolution of MPEG2 video

4> once authoring is done, do i need special burner to burn or can i burn it using normal DVD burner on + or - format DVD

i'm a .net developer. i can write code provided enough documentation. but im really new to HD dvd technology. never worked with it, but would like to work just for fun.

Lax4u, this is a professional forum for developers of HDi, the interactivity format that is used by HD DVD. For general information, please see http://thisishddvd.com/ or http://thelookandsoundofperfect.com. I will address your questions, however.

HD DVD supports MPEG-2 video as a compression scheme. Consumer digital video cameras generally use a format called DV (a standard definition resolution). There are a number of HD consumer digital video cameras coming onto the market now which shoot a variety of formats (HDV, ProHD, AVCHD) which use other compression schemes still. They are now, however, bitstream compatibile with HD DVD and will require a transcode process to convert from the original pictures. Transcoding generally decodes the original picture, then recompresses that picture with a different compression algorithm.

This is transcoding (see above). You can do this with a variety of applications, such as Adobe's premiere software. Note though, that WMV does not imply anything to do with HD DVD. Most HD DVD production programs will do the transcoding for you into a format which is compatible with HD DVD.

Not really. You can upsample standard defintion video (640x480 / 720x480 / 720x576, etc) to HD resolutions (1920x1080,1280x720), but your ouput will never be better than your source.

You can burn variants of HD DVD on DVD-R. Your HD DVD production program should be able to handle this for you within its constraints.
