good place to discuss MSRS.

Lets use this Community sub forum for end users of MSRS to post their services, so other can share etc. Links to other places, like channel9 sandbox are fine, but people can be alerted on new services, samples, by postings here.

I don't mean to be a downer, but i really liked the old newsgroup better. I could use NNTP to access the newsgroup from my email client. This made it very easy to:

  • stay current on MSRS issues, (only 1 program to run, which I use frequently anyway)
  • have a nice threaded view, that clearly indicates read/unread posts
  • have spell checking in my posts
  • start a post, save it for later

The new online forum doesn't have any this. But worse than this, I need to log in everytime I want to post. And I can't even post with my prefered browser.

Of course, if I can access this forum via NNTP, then I will be more than happy.

I agree that NNTP has it advantages, especially on the "news reader" side but you should have a choice of web browsers; at least the latest FireFox seems to work. If you are running into trouble then you may want to report it at [2].

From [1] it does seem possible to replicate a forum through NNTP; I will investigate whether this is possible for these forums.

Thanks Henrik. I am eager to hear about NNTP access.

Thanks for the link about FF and these forums. Problem solved. To fix, just log out, clear your cache, and log back in.

Is it possible to get the news/forum feeds in RSS format, this way I can use my RSS reader (which I currently use for the NNTP feeds)

Yes, just find the RSS style icon on the page and subscribe to the feed. This is actually a very useful way for reading a forum off-line. It obviously doesn't doesn't allow you to send messages; for that you have to be online.
