I have been playing with WDS 2.6.6 for a few days now but have noticed that when searching something specific some documents cannot be found. When I generalize the search query it does find the right documents together with documents I'm not looking for.

Is there a problem with indexing with this built

I also noticed that when searching .msg files you can't search by subject.

Maybe an example says a bit more. When I search for example for the domain 'microsoft.com' in WDS no results are found. When I ditch the tld and only search for 'microsoft', the results are found. But of course with loads of other emails I don't need.

It seems to me WDS does something with the dot in search queries.

Have you try using double quotes to enclose Microsoft.com when searching the dot you mentioned would be considered as a file extension when you did the search.

As for .msg files, have you installed the add-in to search .msg files http://gallery.live.com/liveItemDetail.aspx li=71ffbf5d-9595-457f-9463-db5dd0fd781e&l=3.

I didn't know version 2.6.6 also used these iFilters. How can I see what add-ins are installed I've installed the MSG filter but how do I know it's properly installed (except for waiting till indexing has finished)

Try this 3rd Party app: http://www.citeknet.com/Products/IFilters/IFilterExplorer/tabid/62/Default.aspx to see what iFilters you have installed.

When you say .msg emails, do you mean messages with in outlook app or phsycal .msg files on the file system

Messages within Outlook does not require IFilters, message on the disk (.msg) does require an IFilter.

With .msg email I mean the physical files exported from Outlook. I've installed the iFilter on the computer (as Administrator) but I can't find any reference that the filter has been installed.
Searching for domains still doesn't work while WDS has rebuilt the index.

Other files with domains in the filename like jpegs and pdfs are found, but the .msg files are only found when removing the tld extension from the domain
