Although IĄ¯ve been aware of MSRS since its initial release, IĄ¯m a recent convert to the MSRS way of thinking. IĄ¯ve been a mentor helping with several FIRST Robotics teams in the Kansas City area over the last two years and have begun to recognize the potential value of MSRS within the FIRST community (FIRST stands for Ą°For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and TechnologyĄą their web site is www.usfirst.org).

IĄ¯m working on proof of concept ideas for a whitepaper on how MSRS could benefit FIRST teams and illustrate benefits if MSRS based competition control systems were adopted by FIRST. I am responsible for several messages posted to these forums lately. In particular IĄ¯m trying to get my Vex Robot working with MSRS (see www.VexLabs.com for Vex information). I found source code for a VexMSRS project from http://www.codeplex.com/VexMsrs and IĄ¯m trying to get that to work.

The Vex robot is an affordable training platform that provides programming techniques compatible with the IFI Robot Controller. Expanding and retasking Vex MSRS services to support both controllers is a logical progression. Changes appear on the horizon for the competitionĄ¯s robot controllers and I hope to show the benefits of MSRS as future solutions.

I appreciate all the help IĄ¯ve received here and hope to continue making progress.

I gave a presentation at our Kansas City Robotics Society's monthly meeting a couple of weeks ago. The topic of MSRS on the Vex and my discussions about how FIRST could benefit through MSRS was well received. I was asked if I could do another presentation on the topic again next month.

I gave a similar presentation at the St. Louis Robotics club www.ROBOMO.com on Saturday and the topic received more good comments. I took a LEGO NXT robot along with my Vex to the St. Louis meeting and was able to show off what the LEGO could do. I just got the LEGO a few days earlier and the tutorials helped greatly.

The Vex was being problematic though. it seems that since I set up the BlueTooth communications with the NXT, my Vex serial cable doesn't seem to talk to the Vex. I'm not sure if something changed on my computer within the serial data transmissions or if I'm having a problem with the programming cable. I understand that BlueTooth may add some data about length to the transmission. I need to try my Vex cable on another computer to see if it works there.

Do you have any video showing part of the Sumo and Soccer simulations My laptop computer doesn't seem to have the required video card so I can't demonstrate the Simulation capabilities. I don't see an image display when starting the simulation tutorials. Short videos (maybe 2 - 4 minutes) showing the Sumo and Soccer simulations would be helpful if something is available. I would like to show this feature in future presentations.

Again thanks for the help.
