My setup:

Windows Server 2003 SP1

WSS 3.0

WSS 3.0 Dutch Language Pack

SSP for EPM 2007

I run the preperation tool and get the all clear. I then proceed to install and do not get any dialog boxes giving me options for the install. The installation "completes" and asks me to reboot so I do so. Accessing the sharepoint site works fine but the admin site is trying pointing to "http://wss3:27956/_admin/SearchServerWizard.aspx" which returns the error "An unhandled exception occurred in the user interface.Exception Information: Object reference not set to an instance of an object". The search admin points link points to a site that hasn't been created in IIS and so gives a 404.

I can't uninstall the Search Server 2008 Express either. When I run the uninstaller it gives me the default warning about losing features if I continue with the uninstall, I click ok and the installer waits a bit then just exits without any error.

Does the Search Server require a language pack aswell

I wanted to test this product to find out if it will allow me to index all the sharepoint users so I can search for them like the MOSS people finder. I am also STILL looking for a solution to this problem http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx PostID=1345747&SiteID=17, I hope this product will help me fix this too.

Nickeales,

Just curioius, but have you run the configuration wizard The installation file sets the groundwork, but the configuration wizard is where you set your databases, and options for creating the search center. You should be able to find the configuration wizard under the start menu, programs, search server express....

Thanks,

I just tried this but it throws an exception of type Microsoft.Sharepoint.PostsetupConfiguration.PostSetupConfigurationTaskException.

Here is a snippet from log where the first error occurs:

Restarting all the services fails on the B2B upgrade timer job, I'm not sure how critical this is. After this it seems to be doing some region based things and I guess this is where the problems start occuring for me as I have installed the WSS 3.0 English version with the Dutch Language pack on top of it. The default WSS site on port 80 is a Dutch one.

Re: Installation, Configuration and Administration Won't install.

I see what you're talking about. Have you tried installing it without the language pack Or installing the language pack after you set it up in english I'm sure they'll have multillingual support, i'm not sure its there in the release candidate phase though.

Re: Installation, Configuration and Administration Won't install.

nickeales

No, I haven't tried this. I guess I will wait for the final release (when is it out btw ) and then wait some more for the language packs.

To anyone who has installed this can you confirm whether or not you can search for users in WSS.

Re: Installation, Configuration and Administration Won't install.

IsaacAtML

Regarding Searching for users. I am unable to, though I suspect there is a configuration change I can make to do that. Unsure though.

As for the language pack, after installing it everything worked just fine. Searching returned the same results no problem. Using the Dutch Language pack, the Search Center template is Not an option. The regular sites and such are, but the Search Center is an enterprise feature, which is installed by the MSSX installer, which means until they update the language pack or the MSSX installer in Dutch, that feature will not be available. On the plus side, it should be easier to convert just one site from english to Dutch than the entire site....just my 2 cents

Regarding the people search, http://www.microsoft.com/enterprisesearch/products.aspx indicates that People Searching will Not be available for Microsoft Search Server/Express.

Final release date has not been announced as of yet. Rumor of March has been passed around but dont hold me to that. Look for additional beta releases though. I have not encountered the issue your facing but I also have not attempted to instlall with any lang packs either. Id try a clean install without and see if your still getting the error.

As a note... I filed a bug early on in the Pre Public release for the Pre Install wizard. Apparently the issue has been fixed and am waiting to get the latest bits to test this out.

Id love to mark you down as providing the answer but it really is still open. Great comment on the People search however... that will remain a MOSS feature.
