How do i install the WPF/E SDK and get it to work with Visual Studio

I've followed the instructions on this page http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb190632.aspx#starting_with_wpf-e_topic5 and it still doesn't work.

1. Installed Visual Studio

2. Installed .NET 3 SDK + Orcas extension + Cider designer extension and god knows what all codename-extensions are called.

Developing normal WPF apps has worked perfect with the above configuration for over a month now.

3. Installed Visual Studio Service Pack 1

4. Installed Window Vista fix for VS Service Pack 1

Developing normal WPF-apps still works good but i want to try WPF/E so i do the following:

5. Installed WPF/E SDK http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx FamilyID=c744cbb8-d4d9-4bf9-ad5c-eef36e064911&displaylang=en

6. Installed WPF/E SDK Visual studio extension(http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx FamilyId=8B05EE00-9554-4733-8725-3CA89DD9BFCA&displaylang=en)

I open up Visual studio and expect to see the WPFE-tab in the "new project"-dialog (http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/Bb190632.starting_with_wpf-e09(en-us,MSDN.10).gif) but is it there Nope, nothing.

I am not repeating this until i know EXACTLY how to do because these extensions takes forever to install. First you have to wait 10mins for the installer to "prepare" and then it asks if you want to proceed and when you click OK the installer "gathers information" for 5mins and then it says "Time remaining: 1sec" wich in real life takes another 10mins and after that the installer finally says "Time remaining: 0sec" wich in reality is 5mins. Total time to install this 8mb update: 30mins.

And while the installer is running it is using 80% cpu power.....there is something seriously wrong with these extension-installers. The VS Service Pack 1 installer was even worse, i think it was running for at least an hour.

Found this on Mike Harsh's blog:

The Visual Studio project template that is part of the SDK requires that the Web Application Projects update for VS 2005 is installed. This udpate is not supported by the Express edition of Visual Web Developer. Also, the current template installer doesn't yet support VS 2005 SP1.

Sounds like you didn't meet either of these items. But he also links to a quick fix post by John Rayner which should help you fix the issue.

I just noticed that WPF/E was just normal markup so you could actually use visual studio(or any other editor) without the WPF/E-extensions.

Intellisense for xaml and javascript is already supported :)

Thanks anyway.
