As a remote employee living in Portland and working for a team in Redmond, I've wanted to build something like IvanAnywhere [1] for years!

I'm completely new as this robot thing, though. George Chrysanthakopoulos from MS recommended an iRobot Create w/ a laptop, camera and MSRS. Does anyone have some experience with this kind of thing that might have some more detailed advice about the right kind of camera and mic that would work well on a robot for remote control and full-duplex, how quality a/v Has anyone built something like this It's killing me not to just go purchase the parts, but I'd like to gather a *little* more info first. Thanks!

Cool Stuff.. Unfortunatelly I don't have any experience with such a setup, but I can tell you a couple of hints regarding the camera to buy:

1.- It must support DirectShow (I think most of webcams do) in order to work with MSRS.

2.- For an application like the one you described it would be nice to have remotely controlled pan tilt motion and zoom.

As per 2, there are a couple of cheap options (I don't know about proffessional options or IP cameras) that provide robotized pan-tilt: Logitech Orbit and Creative Live Motion. Using Roborealm you could control the motors of the cameras (I didn't test that myself yet, it's in my ToDo list though).

If you already have a cam, but it doesn't provide pan-tilt motion, you might want to check a device like the TrackerPod [1] which was accessible using C# and XP.
