I have upgraded a VB 6 application that has a chart.  The upgrade was successful but when I run the application I get the following error:

System.InvalidOperationException was unhandled
Message="An error occurred creating the form. See Exception.InnerException for details.  The error is: Unable to get the window handle for the 'AxMSChart' control. Windowless ActiveX controls are not supported."

Is there anything I can do to make the chart control work in VB 2005 Express Beta 2

Thanks

Rod

Hello Rod

We have removed the chart control from VS 2005. We are planning on making it available online for a free download (without any support). The intention is to make it available for developers upgrading their older projects, for scenarios similar to yours. We also recommend to developers to look at the new Reporting feature for charting scenarios when building new applications. If you need details for this, please let me know.

As for now, the chart control is not yet available online. If you are blocked, I can send a copy to you directly just for testing purposes. Let me know if that will work for you.

Thanks for getting in touch.

Update on 5/29/2007:

Hello all,

The old ActiveX chart control was deprecated in VS 2005. If you already have earlier versions of this control that shipped with prior versions of VS, you can continue using it. However, in VS 2005, Charting is supported in the new Reporting feature. Please see http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms252128(VS.80).aspx

I hope this helps.

Thanks

-Shamez

Does this mean that it will be a .net 2.0 component or just a slightly upgraded component that has limited functionality (meaning that charts are done differently in vs2005)

Re: Installing and Registering Visual Studio Express Editions Chart Control

No, this Chart control will be the same ActiveX Chart Control we shipped in VS 2003. It's just not included in VS 2005. If you need this control now, I can email it to you.

Thanks

Shamez--

Please tell me more about the "new Reporting feature" you mention. I searched Help for it but found nothing that seemed related to charting. I am especially interested in 3D charting. Do you know of any available 3D graphics tools

Thanks,
Mable
