I am wondering if anyone else has experienced the following kind of problem or has found a solution:

I have upgraded to a new machine and have run some optimization programs on both machines, which are the following:

1. amd 2.0 ghz, 1gb ram, visual c++ .net 2003, windows xp professional

2. intel core 2 duo 2.0 ghz, 2gb ram, visual c++ express 2005 (w/ SP1 and SP1 update for vista), windows vista ultimate

For some reason, everything runs much slower on setup 2, even though all optimization settings are the same. I have tried using "run as administrator" in vista, but still the much more pwoerful machine runs much slower. If anyone has some suggestions that would be great

Well, Vista is much larger and more resource hungry than XP so you may be running into that problem. But have you tried your 2005 code on the XP system to see how it runs on there.

Also, does your application use floating point numbers. This is set to precise by default in 2005 and it slows things down but gives you more precision.

Thanks for your suggestion, in fact I tried running my code on several machines that run XP or linux, and have not run into this problem. I have also tried using fast instead of precise setting for floating point and this does not help. Also, I have run the code in safe mode and still experience the problem, so I don't tihnk it can be from the resource use of vista.

Even under safe mode there is still a lot more going on so you can't be sure of this. But since this is a Windows related problem then you would do better to ask in a more appropriate location.
