Hello all,

I want to know if it is possible to connect to a SQL Server Express database using Visual C++ Express. I am required to write a program that can access information within the database in addition to implementing any update functions such as adding, deleting or editing records. Would I be better off getting a Professional version of Visual Studio to do this. I would much rather prefer using Visual C++ Express though.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Data->Add new data source

Is that what you're looking for

VC++ EE is not really friendly when it comes to SQL, as I've come to learn. Without the SQL templates that come with VS 2005 Standard or Pro you have to do everything manually.

By manually, do you mean there are no code generators to go with forms and the like

I am trying to connect to my local SQL Server Express and it appears that the only option I have is to use the actual database file that I am interested in. I have created a client ODBC connection for SQL Server, but it's not showing up in the available connections shown when you try to create a new connection in the Database Explorer. Can you use ODBC connections in the Database Explorer
