Ive tried installing it on vista with elevated user account controls, but everytime I try to install I get an error asking me for Service pack 2. Does anyone have a solution

I am having the exact same problem. I need to use VB for my college class, yet I cannot get passed the installer as it keeps saying I need Windows XP SP2 (I'm using Vista Home Premium, by the way).

If I restart into Safe Mode, I can get the installer to work up to a point, but then it says it needs the BITS service running. And this service apparently will not run in Safe Mode.

If anyone can tell me how to get Background Information Transfer Service (BITS) to work in Safe Mode, it might get the installer to finish.

Heck, if anyone can tell me how to get the installer to work without reverting to Safe Mode, that'd be great too.

I figured it out! At least, I got it to install on my computer.

Take the downloaded vbsetup.exe file and put it in the root of your harddrive (C:\). Try running it from there.

For me, it worked without a hitch once I did that.

This is a known issue which we are working to address. You need to be logged in as a member of the Admin group in order to install successfully since elevation is currently not supported.

This should fix your problem.

This approach fixed my problem with c++ install. Thank you. How did you work that out

NULLF

In Vista:

1) Turn Off UAC (user account control), *Install* Visual Studio Express & then turn On UAC again.

2) Right click on the Visual Studio link (under start>programs), goto Properties> Advanced> Check Run as Administrator checkbox

Note:

1) If you do not know how to turn UAC on/off, see: Start> HelpAndSupport> Search for: turn off UAC

2) When you *Uninstall* Visual Studio express, you'll have to turn Off UAC again, Uninstall and then turn On UAC again.
