Is there a blog even for this Im talking about the AutoComplete Feature. Such as if you go on myspace, you can just double click or type a letter and it will show ur history of what you typed. Or some login form/page. If anyone knows anything about this, such as code, or like a place at coding4fun please post.

Hi Mcgin,

Are you trying to make a control for displaying URL's similar to URL combo in IE
Here is a good sample. You can register and download the source code inside.

URLComboBox : A window forms control for displaying URL's

Here are some features of the control:

  • Autocomplete support like that in IE.

  • Automatic management of MRU list.

I hope that can help you.

Martin Xie

Hi Mcgin,

I understand that you want such textbox as www.myspace.com presents.

1. As for web form, the TextBox control has only one relevant property called AutoCompleteType.

Set it as None not Disabled, that's OK.

2. As for windows form, the TextBox control has three relevant properties called

AutoCompleteMode, AutoCompleteSource, AutoCompleteCustomSource.

Set them as below.

  • AutoCompleteMode: Suggest
  • AutoCompleteSource: CustomerSource
  • Add TextBox1.Text to AutoCompleteCustomSource collection in TextBox1_Leave event.

Private Sub TextBox1_Leave(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles TextBox1.Leave

TextBox1.AutoCompleteCustomSource.Add(TextBox1.Text)

End Sub

By the way, please check this blog article, which talks about AutoComplete feature of ComboBox and TextBox. It may be helpful to you.

Regards,

Martin

Hi Mcgin,

The information is stored in registry key as below, but not stored in cookie.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\IntelliForms

AutoComplete is a feature of Internet Explorer, the implementation details of the feature is not publically documented.

Know about AutoComplete from Tools->Internet Options->Content->AutoComplete section.

AutoComplete stores previous entries on webpages and suggests matches for you.

I hope that can help you.

Yes! finally, thats what i have been talking about. So wait your saying that this cannot be implented into a application such as my own webbrowser

Thank you for your quick feedback.

Since the implementation details of IE's AutoComplete feature is not publically documented and no interfaces are exposed, I think it's a bit difficult to implement the AutoComplete feature in your web browser.

The simplest way is to use existing WebBrowser control to develope own customized web browser.
