Does anyone know if it's possible to network two computers through use of the .NET Framework in VisualBasic 2005 Express Edition (i.e. I'm making a game and I need data to be transferred to another computer for a multi-player scenario)

Come on everyone. I need help here. I'm working on a computer programming assignment in class and I need to know how to send data (IP addresses, perhaps) over an Ethernet cable so it can be transferred between systems, thus creating a network. There MUST be some way to do this using Visual Basic 2005 Express Edition. There just has to be a code of some sort that will result in "pinging" another computer with a network through IP address and thus creating a networkable program.

Did you want to just ping another computer through Vb.net

Well, what I want to do is create a multi-player game that can be played over a local computer network.

I have the game all set up and done, but I need the code to allow data to be transferred to another computer (ping address information, perhaps ) For example, if my character uses a certain attack, that data needs to somehow be transferred to the other computer I'm networking with, so as an example, it shows on my computer screen "Character X used Mega Kick" and it shows on my friend's computer screen "Character Y took 100 damage". Similar idea with HP bars and causing damage.

Essentially, each computer has to be synchronized with each other, so it's like each game is running off of the same timer, but depending on what attacks are used in the game, different attack messages will appear on the screen. To use a simple analogy, what I'm trying to do is something like a Pokemon multiplayer game, where Player 1's Gameboy Advance says "Charmander used Flamethrower" while at the exact same time, Player 2's Gameboy Advance screen says "Foe Charmander used Flamethrower", to indicate that Player 1 is attacking Player 2. Except that in this case, I'm doing it on 2 computers instead of Gameboy Advances.

Does anyone have any ideas how I can do this
