    - is it safe to use "free(*)" on a object allocated with "new" ???? Please never do this: new/delete and malloc/free cannot be mix used, otherwise the result is undefined. new/delete have array counterparts, new[]/delete[], while malloc/free have not. new will allocate memory first, then call constructor; delete will call destructor, and deallocate memory subsequently. malloc/free are not relevant to construction and destruction.     - 2005 upgrade ports Floating Point Consistency incorrectly Actually I had originally tested only release builds, and the original "Default" Floating Point Consistency in 2003 only seemed to match the /fp:precise mode in 2005. I guess it doesn't surprise me that the results are slightly different in debug builds with optimizations turned off. Thanks for checking that! I'm curious to see if the bug report gets an answer.     - Release dll built with vs2005 fails load I build both dlls and the exe under VC2005. the source code for the lower dll looks like class __declspec ( dllexport ) layer { public: layer(); ~layer(); // methods ... private: //members // methods } in the private part, I have some customized structure, and I used #pragma warning ( disable : 4251 ) get rid of the compiling warnings and in sge32.dll, layer is used like layer ll; this line is the offend code, comment it out everything is fine, and it only crashes when layer is debug build and sge is release build.     - Trying to pass a Function Name as an Argument to a function Marius, Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately your solution may not work. In my example, ClassA is a library function, which can be called from anywhere, it passes void pointers to the function I pass to it (which is in my main program) and that function knows what to do with the pointers. Because of this, ClassA can not refer to any specific class outside of itself. I hope I am explaining myself correctly. In my actual program, the function ClassA :: FunctionA passes a pointer to a structure as the 1st argument and the pointer to data as the second argument (could be a structure, could be an element of the structure,only the calling program knows). The function ClassB :: FunctionB casts the 2 arguments into the proper types and compares data, it then return a -1, 0, or 1 (less than, equal to, greater than) to ClassA :: FunctionA, which is why ClassA has no knowledge of ClassB (or any other class). I think I've no choice but to manually call the delete operator for each instance derived from LevelObject in the vector. I would have prefered the smart pointer be usable to this end but until I've a means to allow it to own pointers to abstract types then this will have to do. The details are not all that important, but the following classes are important for the question: some classes: class piece() -> Piece has a color (integer). It can be white,black, or empty. class Board() -> Holds all of the data for game play, player names, scores, but most importantly - it has a Grid data member that holds a piece for every spot on the board. My problem is this: As long as I don't exit the program, I can save a game, and load a game fine - everything is restored when loading my game. If I stop the program, start it again, then try loading a game - My Grid array doesn't persist.     - iostreams from within a static lib What is the best way to have iostreams output (std::cout) from within a static lib be routed to a console I have managed front-end that calls a unmanaged static lib. Since the front-end has no console to begin with, I am using AllocConsole() to spawn one. Calls to std::cout from the managed code then appear on the console, however calls to std::cout in the unmanaged code do not appear. If I then move the AllocConsole() call to the unmanaged code (again, which is linked into the managed code as a static lib), still calls to std::cout do not appear on the spawned console. Why Odd clues: The same line of code does not generate the error when used earlier. Other notes: The program has no meaning right now, this is just all that's left after deleting most of the code to try to narrow down the problem.
