I had be trying to use delegates and put the text in its place with another function as you have done, but I was missing the step about of declaring a variable for the delegate.  - How to see the output of the pre-compiler Hi all, I have used LabWindows/CVI quite much. Although it is a terrible compiler, it has one pretty good option. You can view the output generated by the precompiler. Meaning, all include files are inserted and precompiler defines are taken into account.  - invalid or corrupt file: duplicate COMDAT error encountered while migrating to Visual Studio 2005 I have a solution comprising of some 20+ projects, which I am trying to migrate to VS2005 (I was using VS2002). One of the projects is throwing up this linking error: fatal error LNK1179: invalid or corrupt file: duplicate COMDAT <mangled form of the function CXYCollection::get_Count> (Basically the mangled name of the function just after QueryInterface) The project makes a heavy use of class templates and I think it is the reason behind the error. I've been told of A2W, which apparently cannot convert from System::String (so says the compiler error), I've tried converting to a wchar_t first, but the method won't accept it, and I'm running out of luck.  - Loop misalignment I don't know processor architecture very well but I am familiar with the concept of alignment, even for processors that existed before the 8008 (I think that existed before the 8080). I don't recall instructions requiring alignment but I could be wrong. I know that data alignment was relevant and is still relevant; have you seen the article Windows Data Alignment on IPF, x86, and x64 If alignment of instructions is useful, then I would be surprised if VC neither uses it automatically nor supports it's use somehow. I think that if you can't find a way to use it using an option that VC provides, then it is not useful to try to use it yourself.  - cannot find dll First, be sure that it actually is your DLL that is not found in other systems. It could be that a runtime DLL or something else is not found and if so then the problem and solution is different. Since it says that your DLL is " not a valid COM or .NET reference " then you have a DLL that is often called a regular DLL. Are you familiar with path environment variable Your DLL needs to be somewhere that Windows can find it.  - ifstream issues - reading in a data file For the purpose of a common terminology, let's say that each line consists of tokens separated by whitespace. In this situation, whitespace probably consists of one or more spaces but the term whitespace is common and relevant here. Assuming that, other than the name, the number of tokens per line is constant, then you can simply count the tokens and when the count is greater than a specific amount, you know the number of additional tokens in the name. Or you could remove tokens beginning at the end and then after the specific number of tokens you can assume the remainer (beginning of the line) is the name.  - Visble Clip bounds in a Graphics object I have created a Graphics object using Graphics(HDC *hdc) constructor. In this case how does the graphics object knows about the Visible region of the window. It does knows that other wise how does it can implement GetVisibleClipBounds function. In my case if after the creation of the Graphics object the window is resized i.e. the visible region is changed, anything drawn on the new found area is not actually drawn.  - Access violation after porting project to VC2005 I rebuilt all files after porting and before posting this message. Turned out the issue was caused by a race condition that freed my stl datastructure from different thread. It was exposed by porting to 2005 but had to be fixed anyway. Just to let you know that I've tried to access an Excel 2003 application and listen to events fired from it (as described in KB288724) all with Visual 2005, and....it works well. The parameters are passed in right order, as they should be. So I don't understand why my application is receiving parameters in reverse order for all events with more than one parameter. Even if I do not have access to the COM server source code, I highly doubt that implementation be wrong for all event firing.......  - error LNK2019: What .lib do i need to link? (C) No, the DLL only has to be in your working folder. It is almost always a bad idea to put it in the system folder (pollution). Btw, if your program doesn't link that has nothing to do with the location of the DLL. Now that you added the lib file to your additional linker input in your project settings, is the error code still the same Because if the error is that the linker cannot find the lib file, you have to also specify the location of the lib file in your additional include directories. The MFC uses DllMain to do initialisation of the MFC for you to use so you need to make sure you don't use MFC. To do what you said,I put the part that concern Dll Main in comment.and i have 0errors and 0 warnings,and thank you for that.I hope that Mandan done like that.Now,the question is: remember that you can't use the DllMain entry point function since the MFC uses it, but you use other things to do the initialisation.  - VS2005 / corrupt solution file / References to non existing projects Hi, I have a problem with a number of VS2005 solution files (converted from VS2003). The solution builds but VS keeps updating the solution file which requires a check-out etc. The problem is caused as far as I can see by references to non existing projects! The solution files have references (GUIDs) to project files in the GlobalSection(ProjectConfigurationPlatforms). However some of the references are not listed at the top of the solution file and I cannot find (text search) any project file with such a GUID. If I remove the references then VS adds new references (again to non existing projects). The solution we have contains both vcproj files but also icproj (Intell compiler) with nested vcproj files.
