Open Database Connectivity is a standard to unify the database connection, if the ".swe" database provide the ODBC driver then MFC ODBC could be an option: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/s9ds2ktb(VS.80).aspx. It seems be stupid but I think it is necessary to mention that if you only have a file with .swe extension then you will have no way to access it, a database is not only a data file. I feel no clue what a .swe database is and so that hard to provide more information at the moment, I suggest you to find out what kind of database it is and get more help from the database publisher.

Rico
