Sometimes it's difficult to find duplicate bugs when it comes to compilation, so I'd err on the side of leaving it to Microsoft to make that determination.     - RegSvr32 and global data and extern problem Thanks Sahir... Iv since got a bit further on this problem. The client is a MFC COM DLL that depends on an old C DLL explicit linking via lib file. If i call a few functions from the MFC COM DLL into the C DLL is all ok. So this proves it can find the DLL ok. If i add a few calls via function pointers again from the MFC COM DLL to the C DLL, then this is when the error message occurs. So why would it not like C function pointers If i link the C DLL statically i rebuild the project as a static lib, then all is fine. Although this is not an option, but just throws some light on the problem So why would regsvr32 fail to register a COM DLL than implicitly links to a C DLL which declares some pointer to functions and these are used from the client Tag: Visual C++ Language Stack Trace Tools Visual C++

    - Designer Custom Event with a Delegate Disappears from property window Well, it appears that almost 90 some other people have looked at this thread. I've been working with microsoft on the issue, and while it has been reproduced and verified as a bug, the workaround of placing the mapping inside the form_load event to ensure it does not get lost between opening and closing the designer for the form seems to be the best answer at this point.     - CRT assembly versions confusion :8.0.50608.0 vs 8.0.50727.42 Hello, My understanding is that due to the embeded manifest, the system will try to find the 50608.0 (and not the 50727.42 since there is no policy in your case) version in the SxS directory. If it doesn't find it, it will search in the local directory and hence it will pick up the one you copied. Just make sure that the one you copy is the same one you used while building your application. Hope this makes it more clear. I think the first is a declaration of D3DXMatrixIdentity function, which means "somewhere in this or other file there is a function called D3DXMatrixIdentity which takes a pointer to a D3DXMATRIX object and return same kind of pointer". It just allows the compiler to interpret your program. The second has a different meaning: "from now someFunction is a pointer to a someClass object. It is initialized with the address of blah local variable". Note that the name of this pointer is not very suitable, since it overrides a function with the same name. I hope this makes sense.     - Debug Executable size There are two issues. First is it is not posssible to use Memory Leak tools (e.g., CodeSnitch) to test for memory leaks because the image is just too large. The second, issue is that only 2003 devices with 128MB of memory will actually execute the application in debug mode. Debugging on many popular devices is not possible (e.g., HP 4700). We have 2000 users with a wide range of devices, that when there is an issue, we will need to debug. It also takes a long time to download the image to the device, but I can live with that I would fine with just having the ability to find memory leaks to ensure the code is ok.     - Hard disk writing speed thanks my program is for a 1394 camera with hardware trigger. the trigger is 24Hz, the size of image is 320*240*2Byte. there is 25ms for camera shutter time. 5ms for image converting. so there is only 10ms for writing image. you say :Make sure your writing function do nothing but write, if it does lots of calculations for some reason then it will reduce speeds . before writing, program converts the image format to be BRG for showing. then I do writing. what do you mean " lots of calculations " the calculation is done in the level of memory, does it have something with the file I/O overlapped IO I will try with API CreateFile . would you please give me some sample code since when I open the file with option "CFile: sSequentialScan", it will optimize writing with catch. do you think so thanks a lot Tag: Visual C++ Language Stack Trace Tools Visual C++

    - Thanks Microsoft for 11 Different String Types!!! The first on your list are C-style strings and std :: string is a C++ style string. There is also a std :: wstring. MFC's CString was initially designed before C++ was a standard. If the standard had been standardized sooner then Microsft would not have had a need for CString. BSTRs are from Basic and Visual Basic but they are now used across programs and such as a standard format that many other languages can use. Other similar reasons BSTRs are used such as Automation/COM/ActiveX are because there are not any better formats used by all languages that use Automation/COM/ActiveX.     - ifstream does not read the file properly if I do not create ofstream and open to write no-usable file???? it is basically read the file and compare it with the object at consumer side has it. and the type mismatch happens. Are you talking about Windows dump/mini-dump files You can open them in VS under File.Open.Project/Solution.

Hi,

I would like to have Stack Trace Tools for dumps generated in Test System because I want to debug the module when the testing system crashes.Currently , I am not able to know at what module , the system crash happens. Basically that is the aim of it.

Like I said, load up the dump file in VS; press F5 and it will construct a pseudo process that mirrors the state of the dumped process. You'll need to be able to point to the correct binaries and symbol files for full information, but the raw stack will show you where the failure that caused the dump happened (though you may have to back up a few levels if the dump stack is down in USER32 or NTDLL or somewhere).
