    - A strange problem in retrieving a file path and creating a button in Word Hi I don't have a lot of knowlege in COM so the problem that I encountered was very strange to me. I'm trying to create a button in my Word appliction through a Shard Addin project in C#. When I'll press this button a certain logic that I wrote will be executed. I encountered two problems. 1) I can't create the button in my Word application but only in my outlook and I don't know why. I followed exactly the code that's written here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx scid=kb;en-us;302901 But the button was not created. I Added the right assemblies for Word and Office and the CheckBox for "Register for COM interop" was checked. I tried to install all of office components again but it still didn't worked Then I tried to check whether the Addin workd at all so I wrote a messageBox in the OnStartupComplete to see if the MessageBox shows-up. The MessageBox - MessageBox.Show("Hi") - only shows up in Power Point and Outlook. Not in Word or Excel. 2) After the button will be clicked I want to retrieve the path of the current Word Document that's running. Since I couldn't do it with Word, I tried to do it with "Power Point" just to see that it works. I created a string variable that holds the path of the current object according to the code that I found here in a similar question. I checked to see if the file path was retrieved by setting one of the MessageBox parameters with the string value of the path: Type CurrentApplicationType = applicationObject . GetType (); object ActiveDocument = CurrentApplicationType . InvokeMember ( "ActivePresentation" , System . Reflection . BindingFlags .     - Deployment path setting Hello, I've developed an addin for Word 2007 using VSTO 2005 SE. For the setup file, I'm using the default setup file when I created the project. My question is, how can I set a default installation folder for my addin For example:- When the setup file launched, I want to make the *.msi file to automatically install the addin to a predefined folder. It means that no user interaction required, no need to choose an installation path and no clicking needed. Just a direct installation like the MS Office 2007 PIA msi setup file. My problem is that I didn't manage to add images to my new context menu items.     - Adding a large amount of contacts I've hit a road block. I am writing a .NET Outlook (2003) plugin to update my users contacts from a database that our clients update. I have managed to get the plugin button up, and clicking on the button gets the contacts and starts adding them. However, the code has added the 249th contact item, I start getting First Chance exceptions. Is there some kind of restriction that stops me from adding more contacts This is a huge issue for new users in the group, becuase we have over 5000 email address that need to be pushed out to the Contacts Folder.     - Attaching custom actions Pane to all documents !!! Hi All, After reading quite a few posts and trying out various shortcuts or hacks to acheive an " Application Level Task Pane " for Word 2003, i have really come to a grinding halt !! few of the paths that i followed were 1.     - Convert a selection and convert it to rtf Hello all, Is there any way to take a selection from MS Word using VSTO, and convert that selection to rtf Right now here is the code which uses the clipboard: private string ConvertToRTF(Word. I need to copy this because this is the only way that I can get the selection converted to rtf. Another method would require saving the entire document to disk as rtf but this would only work for the entire document, whereas, I need to convert only a selection.     - ServerDocument.AddCustomization throwing COMException HRESULT: 0x80040407 Hello Douglas, Yes, that was my initial thought as well - to use an external application (maybe in terms of a Windows Service) to perform the AddCustomization. However, the short-comings of this method was that the external updater program would have to update the documents before they are opened. Therefore, it would may have to run continuously in the background and scan through the harddisk to update the files. Alternatively, the user may explicitly launch this updater program to convert the document. Either of these methods seemed either too non-transparent. Essentially I wanted to be able to do what Visual Studio 2005 does when you try to open a VS 2003 Solution. The "Conversion Wizard" launches when the *.sln file is opened. Similarly I want my conversion utility to launch when the user opens an office automated *.xls file. So instead I used the approach of Updating the assembly that the document created using VSTO 2003 solution points to so that it performs the conversion. This seemed to work well. Here's the solution: 1. User opens the VSTO 2003 Excel Document 2. OTKLOADR links the document to the original assembly (VSTO 2003). 3. The original assembly closes the Workbook, performs the AddCusomtization, and then re-opens the document. 4. When the document re-opens, the VSTO Loader (instead of the OTKLOADR) links the document to the new assembly (VSTO 2005) Hope this helps anyone else who runs into this issue. Since Orcas is still in beta, I am not in position to opt for it. 1) I added Windows Forms 2.0 List box controls to the form region. 2) In BeforeFormRegionShow() function, a) I tried to receive it as Outlook.OlkListBox item as shown below . But its functionality is limited, it does NOT support multiple columns.     - Error when trying to install ClickOnce Application Howdy, I'm trying to install a clickonce application from IIS on my development machine which has .NET 3.0 installed and VS2k5 sp1 installed. When I navigate to the site and click the Install button I get the download dialog and all is well until I select run from the the setup dialog. I then get the error below: The following error occurred attempting to install 'http://luke/ArlTexAjax/AddressBook.application': "Application not found " I have set the MIME types for .application, .manifest and .deploy extensions. As I was working trying to solve this issue I noticed if I clicked on "launch" link on the installation page, the install is accomplished successfully. It seems as though the setup.exe file cannot find the AddressBook.application file which is in the same folder with the setup.exe file. VSTO code is kept in a separate DLL, linked to the Excel workbook / template through "magic" (well, it's not, really, but it sure seems like it). If you move information to a separate workbook, that link is lost. Or you also have the option to remove the link from a workbook so that it can be sent to others who don't have access to your code.     - word range to html? First thing I'd do is have your app stop right after the Copy method, with the Word application visible and accessible. Then go to Edit/Paste Special and see what formats are available there. And paste into Word to see if the text you think you copied is actually on the clipboard. Note that, theoretically, you should be able to copy the text without selecting it first. Sometimes, Word doesn't like to use Copy and Paste with Range objects. You could also give wdApp.Selection.Copy() a try (where wdApp represents the Word.Application object). You might also check with your code what formats the Clipboard is offering at this point.     - Sending a copy of an Excel 2007 workbook as an attachment Hi, I'm currently attemping an Excel 2007 plugin. Part of this plugin involves a button that, when clicked, launches the "send mail" window of Outlook and attaches the last saved copy of the spreadsheet as an attachment. (The user would then fill in the recipient address, message subject, etc. in the same way as sending an e-mail with Outlook.) My problem is finding an example that would do this.     - Debugging VSTO SE/Outlook on mapped drive fails, works from the C drive. I get a security error when I try to debug my VSTO SE/Outlook add-in from a mapped drive. If I move it to my c drive, it works. The properties for the app are set to Trust Assembly Location=True. The biggest issue is that I cannot have a centralized location for my code.     - Deployment to Live Server Issue I am having an issue with a VSTO Word application after deploying it to a live server and I need help figuring out what is going wrong. My VSTO project is a Word Application that really just gives users report information through a webservice when they click a link from their intranet page. I deployed it to a test server and have it working very well. When I VPN into the other network and publish it to the live and set up all the Security in the .NET config tool, it works when I open it manually giving me a custom error message that no cached data can be found. When I open it through the web browser with http://WebPage/Forms/ProposalDocument.doc it also opens giving me my custom message. When I try to have it opened by the application, like it does on the test server (caching it with the right report number) it errors out with the message below. There is another post that seems to have this same error: http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx PostID=667097&SiteID=1 But it was closed from inactivity. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.     - "New Project" dialog not showing Office project types after install of VSTO I installed Visual Studio for Office Tools (Second Edition)....It appeared to install correctly. I expected that in my Visual Studio "New Project" dialog box I would see some Office project types, BUT I DONT HAVE THESE. I use Visual Studio Professional 2005 with the latest service packs installed and my operating system in Vista Ultimate. By the way......when Visual Studio is starting up in my "installed items" list it shows Visual Studio for Applications but not visual studio for office. Any help appreciated.     - VSTO 2005 SE Globals Addin Support in Word 2003 If I understand things correctly, document level customizations (i.e., those that can make use of the actions pane) are only compatible with Word 2003 Professional or Standalone Editions due to VSTO's use of the XML expansion pack stuff. You can change the number of required clicks to activate a MacroButton field from two to one using WordApplication.Options.ButtonFieldClicks = 1 Please note that this applies to the entire application environment. That's usually not an issue, but you need to be aware of the fact. If it would for some reason be an issue (some solution relies on its being a double-click) you'd need to trap some events in order to change back-and-forth when the user moves out of your document.
