    - New Deployment Article for VSTO2005 SE Hi Siddhu, As you found out ther are two components to the instller: setup.exe checks for installs and the pre-requisites and the MSI installs the solution & sets the security policy. Unfortuneately you will need both and there is no way to produce just one file. Alternatively you could package the installer into a single zip and distribute it that way.     - XML Tags in VSTO documents disappear That was some of my initial doubts as well... That the error occurred by the users doing something bad without knowing it. I have made a 4 step guide, where they in between each step does ctrl+shift+x to verify if the xml tags are still there. That might spot something. I would not believe the xml schema is installed on their machines. For users in our building this is done by the VSTO code, and since they don't have the code, and no one has thought of doing it manually - i will not expect them to have the schema installed.     - VSTO for Excel Hi All, I would really appreciate any assitance that could be given in this matter. So far, I have not been able to find the answers I wanted to these questions. OBJECTIVE: I am building an application using VSTO 2005, Oracle, and Excell 2003 that will get data from Oracle and create (grouped and sorted) tables and charts to go with it. QUESTION: Therefore, I am wondering if it is possible for the Excel Chart object to be created and destoryed and recreated dynamically in the same chart space. I am assuming that this is possible since one can just change the chart type in the chart after the chart has been created. Is this assumption correct (Also there needs to be a datasheet with the datatable, on a seperate sheet) Also is it possible to create multiple document actions pane We are trying to create a menu where the user would click on the item and a submenu set would be displayed, by a transitioning task pane of some sort. I am, once again assuming this is possible since MS Access switchboard uses a similar method. Also in a chart (for example a pie graph of Male to Female ratio for participation in a survey), you click on a dataset (say, the Female dataset), and have a secondary chart appear with that further displays the information relative to the dataset selected. (for example you click on the female dataset, and another chart pops up that displays the ratio of the regions that the Females came from) Please help. Thank you.     - Best practices for server-side generation of spreadsheets Hi, Thank you for your input. I'm afraid I don't know what SSRS is. And I have to say I find it a little bit incredible, given the ubiquity of Office, that no Microsoft or third-party component exists for this. Perhaps it is a good idea for a startup; now the file formats are open and documented and all there should be plenty of possibility for doing this. It would require basically a DOM for each document type (Word, Excel, Powerpoint,...) and logic to "render" and parse the XML... I haven't looked into this, and I suspect the license constraints prevent us from using it, but one idea is to take a trip to SourceForge and take a look at the OpenOffice source code. Internally, the application should use something like a DOM anyway, and saving and loading files obviously corresponds to parsing and rendering. With luck, there will already be a clean separation between code that interacts with the user and "pure model code" - if so, it is just what we need. I don't know what license it is under though, and in my scenario it is certainly not an option to disclose our source code, give away the application for free, or allow anyone to modify it....     - Problem linking assembly to existing Excel file We are having a problem linking an assembly produced by Visual Studio 2005 to an existing Excel 2003 spreadsheet (.XLS) file. (The assembly is correctly linked to the Excel 2003 spreadsheet created by the Visual Studio 2005 project.) With Visual Studio 2005 and Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Tools for Office 2007 SE we have successfully built an install project that deploys a strongly named assembly ExcelWorkbookSimple.dll with ExcelWorkbookSimple.xls. This "app" just puts up a simple ActionPane. The ExcelWorkbookSimple.xls file can be copied anywhere and works -- starting the ActionPane -- as long as the installed directory containing ExcelWorkbookSimple.dll is available and has not been renamed. We have tried adding the AssemblyLocation / AssemblyName custom properties using Excel and Windows Explorer with no success. Each time we get the following message: "The current .NET security policy does not permit ExcelWorkbookSimple to run from the folder C:\The\Actual\Path\. Do not change the security policy in your computer. The .NET security policy is controlled by your administrator or the developer who wrote the custom macros. You can still edit and save the document. Contact your administrator or the author of this document for further assistance." We are not trying to reference a LAN / network location, nor are we trying to access a web location. We are trying to access a folder on the same computer.     - Managed code extensions not working for word template I have created a word template that presents a UI in ActionsPanelControl on start up that is used to populate bookmarks. I see the UI when I run the project in Debug or release mode or by opening the template from the Debug or release folder. But when I copy the .dll and .dot file (in same folder) to some other location I don��t see the UI I don��t even get the error message that states that the current .NET security policy does not permit the customization to run. Hi Alvin

You can currently create a VSTO document-level solution for Word 2003, then use it in Word 2007.

"Native" Word 2007 document-level solutions won't be available until Orcas (the next version of Visual Studio) is released. There is currently no projected release date... One would hope, it would be during the current year.
