I am having problems with the network deploy of a Word document code behind. Word comes up but the code behind is not executed. I have successfully deployed the assembly locally (outside of Visual Studio). Looking at the web server access log after loading the document, I see requests for the ".application" and ".dll.manifest." There is no request for the ".dll" which confuses me.

If I do "caspool -rsg http://localhost:8080/word-plugin/publish/WordPlugin_1.0.0.0/WordPlugin.dll" I see a web request for the DLL. caspool reports

Level = Enterprise
1. All code: FullTrust

Level = Machine
1. All code: Nothing
1.2. Zone - Intranet: LocalIntranet
1.2.1. All code: Same site Web
1.2.2. All code: Same directory FileIO - 'Read, PathDiscovery'
1.2.3. Url - http://localhost:8080/*: FullTrust

Level = User
1. All code: FullTrust
1.1. All code: Nothing
1.1.1. All code: Nothing
1.2. Url - http://localhost:8080/*: FullTrust

I have also set the VSTO_LOGALERTS environment variable to 1, but nothing gets logged.

Does anyone have ideas on what I'm missing or what to do to debug this

Thanks,
Neil

Is the document stored locally or on the network If it is on the network, you need to grant permissions not just to the assembly but also to the documents location. You do this using the Office Document Membership Condition. Check the How to: Grant Permissions to Documents and Workbooks in Shared Locations topic in the Security in Office Solutions section of the docs for how to do this.

The document is local.

Is the security policy for the assembly also at the machine level

And if so, is it in the LocalIntranet_Zone or Internet_Zone

And if it is in the LocalIntranet_Zone, are you using IE7 Because I believe IE7 tightened up security and treats the local intranet like it is the internet. So you would add security at the Internet level.
