Has anyone else had problems with this Windows Update package

I have now seen the issue on two machines. After installing KB928365 Security Update for .Net Framework 2.0 the CASPOL code groups I had set up for my Outlook AddIn were gone!

Exactly the same scenario as You outline (in my case Excel solutions) which also other have reported about.

Do you know if MS are aware

I would like to avoid this happening with the next framework update.

In view of possible scenarios (which the KB actually describes) I find the CAS "issue" to be easy to deal with.

I'm not sure what you mean Dennis.

I can deal with it by re-adding the groups but that's not really the point.

Not sure about your particular OS but the Known Issues for my scenario (XP SP2) did not mention anything about code groups being removed.

Are you clear on the MS logic behind the removal of these items

Hi Brian,

I find that this happens only at User level and doesnt happen with Machine or Enterprise level.

This is because for user level when we install the patch, a new folder is added to "C:\Documents and Settings\v-jzho\Application Data\Microsoft\CLR Security Config\" with name v2.0.50727.832. The security.config file in this newly created folder is not updated with the entries from the previous security.config present in v2.0.50727.42. This doesnt appear to be the case with Machine and Enterprise level becuase for these levels the folder that gets created is with name V2.0.50727 without the minor build in it (which seems logical and consistent with .net1.1). Hence for these levels the config files will not get generated with install of any hotfix.

Thanks

Ji

Thanks Ji,

That explanation helps a lot. Are you saying this was a mistake and should not happen again or is there anything I can do (apart from switch to Machine or Enterprise level) to mitigate the risk of a repeat

Brian
