We have Visual Studio Pro 2005 and wish to be able to use document level excel projects. How do we do this

I've tried adding the VSTO SE download and that adds the application level add-ins for office, but we are missing the document level ones.

Do we need to buy the full version of Visual Studio Tools for Office If so, there is functionality such as crystal reports that we need that is in our current Pro version, but not in the VSTO version.

Is there a download so that we can use document level projects in VS Pro

Do we need to install both full versions side by side

Hi Paul,

VSTO SE only support Add in project. To get document level feature, you must buy the full version of Visual Studio Tools for Office 2005.

If you want to use both VSTO and crystal report, you should install the two products side by side.

Thanks

Ji

Thanks Ji

There seems to be a lot of confusion on this on other forums and posts.

We've downloaded the trial version of team which has crystal and office support and it looks like it is what we need.

Next question we have to figure out the answer to is whether it is better to buy VS office and have it side by side with VS pro, or to upgrade to the team version.

Do you know if VS office can work side by side with VS Pro, because when we installed team it copied over VS Pro with the trial and we're going to have to reinstall it again with the trial is over.

Hi Paul,

Yes, you are right. VSTS is also competent for your scenario. VSTO 2005 is available to install by itself as a complete development environment. It is also included as part of Visual Studio Team Suite. Visual Studio Team Suite consists of the functions of both VS professional and VSTO.

If you install VSTO 2005 onto machines with VS Professional, VSTO is integrated into VS Professional. If you install VSTS, the VSTS will overwrite the VS Professional.

To see the price(include upgrade and renewal options) information, you can refer this link:

Hi Paul

As I understand it, in essence, installing VSTO "over" VS Pro should just integrate the VSTO parts into VS Pro. Are some things "going missing" (The C++ templates, for example - you'll find a comparison chart here http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/vstudio/aa700921.aspx)

I don't think two "flavors" of Visual Studio will install side-by-side on the same machine.

For the standalone version of VSTO 2005, the MS Product Info Center lists two prices; one for a "full version", and one for an "upgrade version". Of the few resellers that carry VSTO 2005, none seem to offer a choice (on their websites). Are resellers able to provide upgrade pricing as well

Also, why is a trial version no longer available From the recent research I've done, it seems like VSTO might be a possible answer for a solution that we want to create in our department. Not being able to actually see and try it, however, doesn't make it any easier to sell management on blindly purchasing a product that might be the answer.

Thx!

I see two products of VSTO at Amazon.

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_pg_2/002-6428167-8809611 ie=UTF8&rs=538528&rh=n%3A538528&page=2

1. Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for Office 2005. $737.99

2. Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for Office 2005. $505.99

I am not very sure about other resellers, but I think they should provide the upgrading price. You¡¯d better inquire the reseller to make sure about that.

And you can download Visual Studio Team Suite for a trial use:

VSTO 2005 is shipped with VSTS.
