Have run into some frustrating issues with Excel crashing when opening or saving VSTO enabled workbooks that contains circular references or have the trace dependents/precedents arrows showing.

To reproduce, create a new workbook-level solution using VSTO 2005 and follow the steps below using Excel 2003.

Has anyone else experienced this and if so, do you have any viable workarounds to share

Circular references (1):

1) Put a circular reference in a VSTO enabled workbook

2) Uncheck Tools>Calculation>Iteration

3) Display the Circular References toolbar

4) Save --> Excel will crash

Circular references (2):

1) Put a circular reference in a VSTO enabled workbook

2) Check Tools>Calculation>Iteration

3) Hide the the Circular References toolbar if it is showing

4) Save and close Excel

5) From a new instance of Excel, open a document that has Tools>Calculation>Iteration unchecked

4) From the same instance of Excel, open your customized workbook with the circular reference --> Excel will crash

Formula auditing:

1) Using a VSTO enabled workbook, put formulas in a worksheet that reference other cells in the same worksheet

2) Select one of the cells that contain a formula

3) From the Formula Auditing toolbar, choose trace dependents or precedents

4) Save --> Excel will crash
