    - Performance/Display issues with Windows Forms Hello kewpcg, parent handle: if you don't give your forms a parent window handle -> the default is 0 wich means desktop (as I know) -> good old windows API. If you don't give them a parent - you can have a form (even a modal one) and sometimes your parent window goes in front of your AddIn (like the Outlook send/receive window - wich is modal true). And so you can never click on your invisible modal form. So - better is to explicitly say -> the parent of the form is the active window - or application. So when you have a modal form and you activate the parent-application -> the modal form comes to front. Only my expirience. 2. You didn't say that the form loading problem happens only on 1 machine and only on 1 form. I don't know what you are access or the code - so it could be a network-problem or a programming error.     - Outlook Explorer Close event I think you are not getting the event because VSTO 2005 for Outlook tracks number of active Outlook windows and unloads your add-in when last explorer/inspector is closed. I believe Andrew Whitechapel has an entire VSTO 2005 for Outlook architecture article published.     - VSTO 2005 SE I installed MS Office 2007 including PIA 2007 Visual Studio 2005 VSTO 2005 SE on my computer. When i create Outlook Addin project in Visual Studio 2005 i get the following message. "Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 SP1 or newer is not installed on this computer. You must install a version of Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 that supports Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Tools for the Microsoft Office System projects."     - Giving Cell Reference for String Hi, in my application i'm using string to be enter in a textbox. I've to use the cell reference for that textbox too. The scenario as follows, There will be a text in any one of the cell in sheet. The user will open a form and there is a text box.In next to that i've to give the cell reference icon, when the user clicks the icon, it should open a separate window and cell reference should appear in the wndow. Once user hits enter, the cell nmber alone should display in the text box. Let me get solution for the above. The function need is same as in the norma Excel -->Insert-->Formula.     - SerializationException: Type is not resolved for member ... Hi, I'm currently at loss with this current problem. This is the scenario: I have several c# libraries (all strongly named) in my solution. This solution processes data and serialised the result into a MS SQL Server database. From my VSTO project (using VB.NET) I tried to access the database and deserialise the result back into my object. Everything works until the moment of deserialisation where I get the SerializationException: Type is not resolved for member ... I have a test project that accesses the database and deserialise my object and it is working perfectly fine, so I'm certain that the serialisation/deserialisation code is working, but just not within VSTO framework.     - Addin fails to load a DLL which had its version updated. Actually no, I have them both in the same solution. And dependcies are properly set so that the VSTO project is built only after the class library. And I've tried rebuilding them, removing the project reference (to the Class lib) and re adding it etc. But I still get the same error. There's a manifest file in XL that keeps this reference to the library version. And I suspect that somehow this is not getting updated to take the new library version.     - Outlook Addin (VSTO) not starting when "outlook.exe" is running with no UI Hi, it seems that this issue has been the topic of many threads (e.g. http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx PostID=576370&SiteID=1 ). However, I couldn't find any hint on how to solve this problem. How to reproduce: 1. Put a "MessageBox.Show()" or a "File.WriteAllText()" in the startup event handler method. 2. Run any application that starts Outlook in the background. The message or the file won't show up. However, the addin's LoadBehavior is set to two. 3. Fire up Outlook (UI) and check the addin state (Tools > Options > Other ...). It's not loaded due to some error. 4. Close Outlook (UI) and close the application that initially started Outlook in the background. The process "outlook.exe" won't shut down and has to be killed manually. Conclusion: The addin loader seems to cause the error when Outlook is launched with no UI because the addin code never seems to get called. Moreover, it seems to hold some resources that prevents "outlook.exe" from being terminated. Question: Could the conclusion be correct If not, is there any reasonable explanation for this behavior Is there a workaround or a fix for it Please let me know!     - Can't get most basic VSTO 2005 SE Outlook Add-In to load Hi guys, First off, I want to thank the VSTO team for being open and responsive to queries. I hassled Eric Carter first (but felt somewhat justified since I bought the VSTO book ;) ) and he passed me over to Misha. To clarify my setup, I have VS 2005 Professional loaded on XP SP2. I also had VSTO 2005 installed, but the release version, I've never installed any betas. I then loaded VSTO 2005 SE. I manually checked CAS, it's as expected since VS set it up automatically. Per Misha I enabled mixed debugging and sent some information which showed that it isn't getting to the point where managed code is being loaded. This may explain why there are no details, and why setting logging or doing the displayalerts does nothing. I just loaded the same setup VS 2005 + VSTO 2005 + VSTO 2005 SE on an XP SP2 work machine here (I'm having trouble with the home machine), and everything works fine when I select the Outlook 2003 Add-In and do a Hello World mod to the basic template. The only real differences between the home and office machines is that at home I run Outlook (same 2003 SP2 version) in Internet Only mode, while at work of course it's in Corporate mode talking to an Exchange Server. I don't imagine that would be an issue (though I understand some Extended MAPI things are not available in this mode) or it would surely have been noticed by now. The only other difference I can think of for the home setup is I'm running Spyware Doctor 4.0, which I don't trust as far as I can throw. ;) Not sure how that could interfere, but I'll run a test with it disabled. I'm waiting to hear back from Misha on my last email (I had to modify my return message three times before it seemed to get past the MS spam filter), but I will try the more advanced debug checking that Geoff discusses in the link. It doesn't matter if I use VBA or VSTO because I believe they have both the same power (actually I make an add-in). I realize that Excel might not seem to be very good at shapes (as I thought too) but by inspecting its object model, it seems that shape handling is full featured. If I'd like to store the "project number" as such, I think this is what custom properties are for, without need for hidden objects - actually, being an add-in, I do not have any either. Now I just wonder how the properties I mentioned above differ and what is the best practice for creating such formated ranges in one shape.     - using VSTO w/ ASP.Net 2.0 Hi Dennis If the question is getting data into the document, then there are a number of possible approaches. You just can't use a "pane" in combination with a VSTO add-in. Here are some suggestions 1. You can create an Add-in and use a dialog box or commandbar as the user interface 2. You can create a Web interface, then feed the data into the document using XML (parsing the Word 2003 XML file), as you propose above, before the document is opened in Word. This would certainly be most efficient. 3. As (2), but you could use the full version of VSTO (which you currently don't have) with the ServerDocument functionality to put data in the data cache. 4. If you really want the UI in Word, in a pane, then you could create a SmartDocument solution. This is VSTO builds it actions pane on, taking a lot of the work off the developer's hands.     - VSTO 2005 SE Outlook Requirements on End Users Computers Hi Misha, Thank you for replying. By "I can not deploy" I mean I cannot install. The setup project is based upon that given for outlook in the msdn article "Deploying visual studio 2 2005 for office second edition using window installer" as recently updated. This installs perfectly on the 2003 machines but on the machines with the Exchange CD Outlook it fails reporting that Excel 2003 is not installed even though the add in project does not reference Excel. I have used PSS VSTO 2005 Client troubleshooter to examine the status of the machine in question and it reports as follows Microsoft Office 2003 Analysis Microsoft Office 2003 Products Installed: Microsft Office Outlook 2003 Microsoft Office 2003 Products Installed : A supported version of Microsoft Office 2003 was not found. The machine in question originally had Office XP. At a later stage Exchange server was installed in this office and the CD/licence used to install Outlook 2003 on this machine. I have examined the CD supplied with Exchange 2003 Server Enterprise and note that it states it contains Outlook Standard 2003 which does not sound hopeful and I suspect that the Outlook version supplied with Exchange is not classed as "Standalone" but this is not clear. I create a Task Pane and the first thing I want is a set of Radio Buttons -- the number of buttons to be determined by a table of boiler plate language in a DB.     - VSTO Plugin for Outlook 2003 with Terminal Server VSTO 2005 SE Dear .., We have developed a VSTO 2005SE add-in for Outlook 2003 which works perfects on our machines, but will not work on the Terminal Server (Windows 2003 Server) used by our client. The strange thing is that we don't get a Com-error or something like that, but the Add-On just will not appear in the list with COM Add-Ons in their Outlook 2003 Client . We do the following to add our Add-In to Outlook. 1)Installed the Office 2003 Primary Interop Assemblies redistributable package. 2) Installed the VSTO 2005 3) Installed our plugin. This uses the installer created by VSTO for Visual Studio 2005. 4) Added the Runtime Security policies to .NET 2.0 for our signed DLL's. We give Full Rights to our signed DLL's on the Enterprise, Machine and User 'All Code Groups'. 5) For each user we add the registry keys in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins\OURPLUGIN 6) We Also tried adding the registry keys in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins\OURPLUGIN 7) Our Setup already installs http://support.microsoft.com/kb/908004/ The LoadBehavior has the value 3 , both in local machine as in Current User. All software is installed using "control Panel/Add Remove programs" with admin rights because it's a terminal server . We have also installed the Add-In on another machine within their organisation (Also Running Windows 2003 Server) and there it's working without any problems. But that Server is not configured as a Terminal Server. I saw many posts of peple whom have the same problem, but still no solution. It's not a problem in VSTO, it's a bug in the DataGrid and DataGridView control.     - Couple more VSTO Apppliation-Level Add-In Deployment Questions Ji, I am creating an AddIn for Excel 2007 using VSTO SE. I have attempted to grant full trust to all of my assemblies using custom actions that use the SetSecurity project - I have created four custom actions that all use the primary output of the SetSecurity project. I can make this work by creating a different solutionCodeGroup for each assembly (I've renamed the custom actions to indicate which assembly each handles). However, for some reason only one of these groups is deleted upon uninstall. Also, I cannot seem to set it up properly to use a single solutionCodeGroup with unique assemblyCodeGroups. For some reason, only one assembly is placed into the solutionCodeGroup on install, with the other assemblies being ignored. Can you help with these questions Thank you. At this point, I can't tell whether Add-ins are enough either since going to the Add-in dialog in Excel 2007 on my machine always results in an error that immediately closes Excel.     - OutLook Signature Hi Sue, You are quite right that the 3rd option works great with O2K7. Finally a straight forward way of configuring Outlook signatures programmatically. I am working on a VSTO Addin for Outlook in which the users can design their signature by adding or removing certain elements such as direct phone, mobile phone, position etc. For this addin I would like to replace the "Signatures..." menu item of the built in SignatureInsertMenu with a menu item that launches my form with the options that are used to create new .htm, .rtf and .txt. Is it possible to remove the default "Signatures..." menu item and add a custom item. I might be able to set visibility of the SignatureInsertMenu to false and then add a button that launches my form, but then I will loose the menu items that enables the user to insert signatures in the mail item.     - Addin of Excel 2003? A "normal" setup shouldn't need to run the actual applications. A "normal" application copies the files, sets security and (possibly) creates registry entries. Using .NET 2.0 I'd assume there is some easy way to accept dropping a file attachment from an outlook email message onto a form I cannot seem to find any good example of this. I see some very convuluded vb 6 methods, surely there is some easy way to do this
