After installing VSTO and VSTO SE, when I try to create a new Excel VSTO App I get this message:

"Project cannot be created because the application add-in is not working correctly and might jave been disabled. To check for disabled items in the Microsoft Office application, open the Help menu, click About Microsoft Office Word or About Microsoft Office Excel, and then click Disabled Items. If either "Word Visual Studio Design Time Adapter Add-in" or "Excel Visual Studio Design Time Adapter Add-in" appears, select it and click Enable. If not, reinstall or repair your installationof Visual Studio Tools for Office."

I do not have either of the adapter add-ins in the disabled items menu. I have reinstalled Visual Studio (2005), VSTO, VSTO 2005, and Office 2003.
I am at my wits end, I cannot find an answer anywhere. Please help, I am coming up on a deadline...

Much appreciated,

Howard

Hi Howard

Just double-checking: which sub-version of Office 2003 have you installed

Have you tried Help/Detect and Repair with Office 2003

If you uninstall everything again, then install only Office 2003 (making sure the PIAs are also installed) and VSTO 2005 (not the SE) can you create an Excel project How about a Word project

Are there any other Add-ins installed for Office that might be interfering

Thanks for the reply - i am pulling my hair out:

Office Excel 2003 (11.6355.8122) SP1

Visual Studio 2005 Team Edition for Software Developers (8.0.50727.42)(RTM.050727-4200)

1) I will uninstall all and then reinstall Office and VSTO 2005

2) How do I make sure the PIA's are there

3) I do have one outside add-in that I will take out and see...

Thnx again, Howard

Here's some more information: I unInstalled and reinstalled as you asked, no go. I do not have any diabled items in the Help->About. But when I clicked on the System Info button, and did some research, I noticed that the System Info app recognized Word just fine, even displaying what COM Add-ins were installed, Product ID, etc... But, I did not see this info for Excel. On the About form, the Prod ID is there, but it doesn't show in the System Info app. Plus, the System Info app will not show what Com-Add-ins are installed because it states, "Microsoft Office Excel is not available. Verify that Excel is installed and running then choose Refresh from the View or Action menu". Well, Excel is installed, and it is running. PLEASE HELP! One more thing, I upgraded my Office to SP2 (11.6560.8122). Word does not work as well. I CAN, however, using VSTO SE create add-ins.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx familyid=3c9a983a-ac14-4125-8ba0-d36d67e0f4ad is the location for the manual PIA's for Office 2003, I would suggest installing these again and repairing the VSTO installation.

I was actually wondering if you have Office 2003 professional or the stand-alone versions of Word and Excel. VSTO 2005 probably won't even install if you don't have these, but it's always worth double-checking.

However, System Info is showing you about Excel is disturbing. I'd start undoing the tangles with this thread. And I'd go to the specialists in the office.setup newsgroup. Ask there if they'd know why System info would be giving you this message, and that you want to view the Com Add-ins information. Be sure to mention the version of Windows you're running, as well as the upgrade and build info (as you did here).

Thnx for the reply. Using Excel as an example, in the About menu it states: Microsoft Office Excel 2003 (11.6560.8122) SP2 Part of MIcrosoft Office Professional Edition 2003. I posted my issue in the newsgroup as you suggested, also.

Was the Excel installation a stand alone installer for Excel only.. This is fully featured and should work ok. The main issue now might be the mixed versions of Office installed on the same machine. I would suggest having Office 2003 Professional and install from this release only,.

Sorry you seem to be installing/reinstalling but trust me it does work ok but sounds as though there is some quirk going on with your environment.

Thnx Mike. I installed Office 2003 from the MSDN Subscribers .iso file, extracted it to my hard drive, then installed. should i download and install each component seperately I have also noticed that I cannot load the VSTOExcelAdaptor.dll into my COM Addins. It just will not take it. I do not know what to do.

I've been having the same problems. Before I took any drastic action, I took a look in task manager and killed all EXCEL processes that were running - my excel has been playing up and not shutting down properly. After I'd killed the processes the designer worked a treat.
