    - Crash in VSTOApplicationManifestEditor using VSTO 2005 SE (HRESULT 0x8004040A) Scoober - That application is built against the VSTO, if you look at the solution, you'll see the referenced namespace Microsoft.VisualStudio.Tools.Applications.Runtime. The COM error being thrown is because it's trying to hook to the VSTO 2005 components and not finding them; as you've indicated, the machine you're running it on only has the VSTO 2005 SE, so that's not going to work (and you shouldn't expect it to). I currently do not have a machine setup to try this out, so you're going to have to give it a go and tell the rest of us what happens ... On a machine that has both VSTO 2005 and 2005 SE, I would open the Application Manifest project solution, remove the current reference to the VSTO runtime and add a reference to the VSTO 2005 SE runtime and rebuild the solution. You may find there are somethings that have changed that you might have to fix; again, I don't know ... but this is the approach I would take.     - Customizing the context menu in Word 2007 Indeed, the usual approach for this kind of thing is to delete the entry on shutdown (that way, if your add-in is removed from the machine it won't leave anything behind). Since you should be declaring the btn object at the class level (so that it doesn't get garbage collected and go out of scope), that shouldn't be a big problem as far as coding goes. Most professional Word developers recommend distributing a template with your Add-in to hold your customizations, rather than "tampering with" Normal.dot. (Normal.dot really was designed to hold the user's customizations...) Your Add-in would load it (Addins collection) when it starts up and unload it when it shuts down. And as that should also be removed if your add-in is uninstalled that would leave you free to delete or not, as you choose. As a matter of fact, you could set up the template with all the buttons you need, then just have your code hook up the event handlers at run time. If you want to know whether a button already exists you can either loop through the Controls collection of a commandbar, comparing a property. Or you can use CommandBars.FindControl together with the Tag property to return it (if it exists). Then you just have to make sure you assign a unique Tag property to every button you create.     - Regarding excel class name Hi Asim, Yes, Excel7 is the current window class name for the workbook window and it has been fairly static for some time. We do recognize that there are solutions out there that depend on these window class names, so we don't tend to change them unless doing so is absolutely necessary. However, we also don't document them precisely because we do have to change them on occassion and we really don't want people relying on them. So if you are asking whether you can assume this class name to remain the same in future versions of Excel, the answer is no. Nor will this class name work for all existing versions of Excel. Presumably, Excel95 is the earliest version with this class name.     - Problem deploying Shared COM-AddIn application I can't help you with your problem - but I can suggest an alternative that I have used successfully. Instead of creating a shared Excel add-in, use VSTO (not SE) to create a document-level add-in. Then open the customized Excel workbook and Save it as an XLA file. This has two main advantages over the shared add-in: 1. Much easier deployment. You just need to give full trust to the XLA file and its supporting assemblies. No registry updates are needed - so that e.g. deployment can be as easy as copying files to a (trusted) network share. 2. The XLA add-in can be loaded on demand (e.g. by a VBA macro in a second "loader" XLA file), which means the overhead of loading the .NET Framework and the VSTO customisation is only incurred when it's actually used. Office 2003 introduced the ISmartDocument interface that allows you to create a "Document Actions" task pane for a specific document. (But not for an Add-in.) You can implement the ISmartDocument interface in a DLL (straight COM or managed code -> COM); it requires you to associate a XML schema with the document. The SDK is available on the MSDN site. The full version of VSTO 2005 (the one without the SE in the name and the one that's NOT free or a download) works with the SmartDocument interface to provide a Document Actions pane for a VSTO document-level project. All,

I have an add-in that gives the user a list of views available on the current folder. The user is then able to select a view and apply it. What I want to do is to automatically auto-collapse all groups when the view is "by categories".

Can this be done with VSTO 2005 or how can I send a CTRL - key command

I found it... the trick was to select "All Collapsed" in the bottom of the Group by page.
