    - Dimension, CurrentMember and a hierarchy Greetings - I am writing some MDX for a RS report, and seem to have hit a bit of a wall. The business folks keep changing their minds on what hierarchy they want to report from, so I would like to have it as a parameter to the report. Problem is that I don't know if there is a way to get the CurrentMember.Properties('Caption') without explicitly declaring the hierarchy. My MDX: With Set [MySet] as StrToSet (@HierarchyAndMember) Set [DateSet] as StrToSet (@Date, Constrained ) Member [Measures].[Display] as [Dimension].[Hierarchy Name]. CurrentMember . Properties ( 'Caption' ) I would like to do StrToSet(@HierarchyMember).CurrentMember.Properties('caption') here Select { [measures].[created invoices], [measures].[display] } on 0, { [MySet] * [DateSet] } on 1 from [cube] I have tried several different things, and this is the closest I have found. Placing the StrToSet in either it's own set or directly in the MDX doesn't affect the results.     - Log files grows indefinitely and causes ETL to fail Hi, If you open up your project in BIDS, goto SSIS -Logging... And in here you can create different providers for logging, in the Details tab you can set up which events to capture. There are a few important ones, such as OnError and OnWarning. Probably some other important ones, but it's been a while and I can't quite remember what they all do now. If you want to reduce the size more you could just output specific things like SourceName and MessageText. Some of the other things are fairly useless if you are using a sql job to run it, as they will just be repeated on everyline over and over again. All depends on what you feel is nessecary to capture.     - MDX - Group By functionality Hello. I am currently trying to replicate a GROUP BY clause in MDX. Basically we have a Many-To-Many Dimension, with Planograms-Items as our hierarchy. When I say: { DESCENDANTS( [Planogram].[PLanogram1], [Planogram].[Items]), DESCENDANTS( [Planogram].[PLanogram2], [Planogram].[Items]) } I get duplicate items since an item is in both planograms, but of course each row has it own sales, units, etc. The problem is, when I submit larger queries I get 30,000 rows, 3,000 of which are unique Item ID's. I've tried a lot, SUM(), using STRTOMEMBER(), etc...but to no avail. Basically i'm looking to sum the rows in which the Item ID's are equal, and only get 3,000 rows back from the cube, with all the non description columns summed. ANy ideas Thanks a lot.     - Parameterized connection string & parameters - problem Hi, I��ve created a report which utilizes two stored procedures to populate parameter dropdown and fill report itself respectively. Report works fine until I create parameterized connection string. When datasource (not shared) has parameterized connection the parameter dropdown is greyed. I��m getting error: ��error during processing of the ConnectString expression of the datasouree ��name��. It works fine when I��m using only one stored procedure (no parameter dropdown stored procedure is executed �C report has only one dataset).     - Login failure issue with Crystal reports connecting to SQL Server 2005 When I say "outside the application", I mean creating a test asp page that passes the hardcoded username and password to the crytal report control, and pull a specified report. This page has nothing to do with the application. I'm using SQL Server authentication, and the connection string is fine because the application is able to connect to the database. I'm just trying to connect on my own local machine to the server which is installed on my own local machine. I have McAffee anti-virus software installed. There's no telling what that monstrosity is doing to shut down things -- all in the line of 'enhanced security', of course. I am just about at my wits end trying to get this thing to work. I neglected to mention that when I first installed the server and the management studio, at least the latter connected to the former. Something changed somewhere along the way so that now it doesnt work. I've checked the Service in the Control Panel and it seems to be running. I even stopped and restarted it several times with no success. I used the config manager to configure the 'surface area' (love that one) so that remote connections are enabled. Still no luck. If the last field in the SELECT statement contains data with varying lengths, then the file ends up with records of varying lengths. jwelch, I'm not sure what you mean. I don't see anything for a connection manager within the Import/Export wizard. I tried choosing Fixed Width as the text file format and included ['' as lastfield] as the final field in the SELECT statement used as a source. I still couldn't choose a row delimiter for the file and the file looked to end up as 1 giant record rather than 20,000 records with 1 on each line of the text file. This sounds strange. When I have installed Sql 2005 on this Vista Machine and then applied SP2 it kills Vista to the point it wont even start in Safe Mode - It will come back when using Last Known Good Configuration but this leaves Sql Server without the SP2 and it doesnt run very well - Compatability issues and all. Tempted to go back to XP 64 where Sql 2005 ran without a hitch.

Vista is a clean install - of course.

Anybody got ideas
