    - Query Plan in SQL Server 2005 SP2 The user selects the list of IDs. The application then creates a dynamic SQL script with these values, and passes it to the database. A lot of such t-sql has been moved from application code into stored procedures/functions but there's still some that will need to be moved eventually, and some that cannot be moved because of the nature of the functionality. For these I've been trying to replace with the sp_executesql construct to improve plan reuse. In the meantime - this is great information. I just tested by inserting the data into a temp table and running the SELECT. Ran in under 1 second and used the best index for the query. If I can't get the code moved to the DB, I will ask that the data be placed in a table before using in the IN construct. I made sure I planned my indexing strategy, implemented it, maintain indexes, etc but didn't quite understand why they weren't being used. I need to know whether the data set for the report returned any data or not (so that i can avoid emailing the report with a blank report body). Ofcource this can be done by executing the same query (same as the query for the report) from C# code and checking the count of the resultset, before calling the SSRS Render method. But it might not be an efficient method.     - Multiple Database Files: Good or neutral? I have inherited some responsibilities for which I'm not really qualified, so I'll push on through and maybe not totally fall down. Assume 10 50GB databases, each in a single MDF file. All these MDF files reside on the C drive (the only drive on the system), running SQL 2005 in a 32-bit Windows 2003 or later, 8GB RAM. The C drive is 6 physical disks in RAID 5, say about 1.0 TB or so. We have 4 dual-core processors on the box. We have limited simultaneous users, initally about 8 users doing very heavy write on all tables in any one database. Later, we have about 15 users connecting via Web interface, and doing very heavy read and light writing. Each of the 10 or so database has this lifecycle: Heavy write for about 2 weeks (load data) then heavy read for about 1 month (research and search data), then nothing ever again (db is taken offline). Of course, this is not enough information to go on, but let's just go on it anyway. My TempDB, Log (simple recovery), Index etc is all on the same RAID 5 drive (C). I have two basic questions I'd love to hear feedback on: 1. Is there any real advantage to creating 8 Data files for my database (one per processor core) 2. Given that the hardware people here REALLY don't want to change anything, what should I fight for first: a. Separate drive for LOG files b. Separate drive for TempDB c. I want to do like this. i want to run different BCPs in parallel where each BCP will have the inputfile having the data ,going to perticular partition of the same table. But i feel that if it supports like this, We will have overhead where BCP would be comparing the value passed and comparing it and then loading it to perticular partition.     - DeadLock - INSERT with foreign keys I looked at the execution plan of the insert statement into the device table and the foreign key lookup was doing a scan and a merge join. This was what was causing the issue. I have seen this before when the datatypes do not match, for example int to bigint, but that is not the case with your code. I believe it has something to do with the xml function that is causing the problems. I modified the code to parse the xml and put the results in a table variable and then do the insert and I did not receive any deadlocks. Let me know if you have the same results on your side.     - DTS package performance issue on sqlserver 2000 Hi guys, I have a performance related question about the DTS package in sqlserver 2000 which i have developed We have developed a DTS package which will migrate a view 'ATTRITION' from Sqlserver 2000 to an Oracle database.The design of the package is as follows First step : It checks for the existance of the table 'ATTRITION' in oracle database, if table 'ATTRITION' is not there it will create a table called 'ATTRITION' in the oracle db.If the table 'ATTRITION' is already present in the oracle db,then the table is truncated. Second step : The view 'ATTRITION' is migrated to Oracle table 'ATTRITION'. For the migration, i have used a connection object which connects to sqlserver 2000 and for oracle connection i have used another connection object 'Microsoft ODBC driver for oracle' and i have joined both the connection objects with 'Transform data task' task which maps one to one from sqlserver 2000 where view 'ATTRITION' exists with oracle database where Table 'ATTRITION' exists. Roughly i have around 65000 rows in 'ATTRITION' view of sqlserver 2000 which needs to be migrated.When im running the package on my system it takes around 4 minutes to migrate all the rows but when im running it on the server it takes a lot lot of time more than 1 hour. The view definition im using has more than 10 tables joined together.But if its a problem of query used in the view,and if i run the view seperately it quickly displays the data hardly takes 1 minute. and even if i run the package on my local pc it doenst take much time.Now my confusion is why its taking soo much time on server.If i create a indexed view then will it solve my problem.Please suggest... Hello All,

I uploaded custtable under the database, the data looks fine except that the name that apprears has a lot of distance e.g

it should be :

firstname lastname however the format appears very strange:

firstname lastname

fistname lastname

Same is the case with the address, I need to adjust or format the apperance that appears on the cell. Is there a way/ sql statement to format the data under the table so that the apprearence looks okay.

I will really appreciate any sort of help on this one.

Check the positioning properties of the grid/cell.

You could try trimming leading 'space' characters in the SELECT query, e.g., ltrim( FirstName ), ltrim( LastName ).
