    - Vista SQL 2005 SP2 client to Windows XP SQL 2005 (non-sp2) workstation. Apparently it's not that simple as I thought at first. Disableing the firewall will allow you to connect. Add Managment Studio as an exception seemed to work for a short while, but maybe some connections were still open from when the firewall was disabled.     - Unable to Edit or Create SSIS packages or Maintenance Plans Thanks, Have downloaded and installed the latest cumulative patch but unfortunately that made no difference. I've reinstalled SQL 2005 client components, Visual Studio 2005 and the dot net framework 2.0 to no avail. I have since experienced other problems with my PC so there's obviously something somewhere not quite right. Have decided the easiest way to solve this is to do a rebuild.     - The dreaded subreport could not be shown error This, unfortunately, didn't help--as I said before, I tested both with parameters and without. Edit: On further investigation and testing, even a subreport with one textbox that contained static text failed to display with the same error. Edit 2: On even further investigation, I got a simple test report that displays the parameter given to it to display. However, the report I have with a dataset still fails to display. Edit 3: It appears that adding a dataset to the simple test report, even if I'm not doing anything with it, is enough to stop the subreport from displaying. What Ive noticed is that depending on which database I enter data into, the indentity field (primary key) is set within a certain range I.e On Server 1 - Values start from 1 then 2,3,4 etc etc Server 2 - 24001, 24002, 24003 etc etc Server 3 - 46001, 46002, 46003 etc etc Server 4 - 68001, 68002, 68003 My question is what happens when these ranges eventually conflict Do they automatically gain a different range such as 142 001, 142 002 etc etc Ive tried looking in SQL Help, and a quick search here, Im just after some confirmation before I implement this to my app. cheers Tag: How do i start playing with sql server???

Some times there will be insert and delete statements of more than 10000. I executed this statement for more than 10000 records, in that apart from 7 records every thing else got deleted.     - Import and Export Data Wizard missing in SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Hi, First off, please excuse the lack of specific detail but it's been a while since I installed this feature - there is an import/export facility in SQL Server Express edition but it's in the "Advanced Features/Services" version. You have to do a "custom" install and the import feature is buried in one of the tree feature diagrams and is NOT selected by default. Open all the feature trees and check out the hints for each of the features to find the one you're after - it's definitely there 'cos I've used it to import data from an Excel workbook and from Access. It is a situation when the database is restored to the folder where it does not exist. Secondly, I just installed Vista OS and the backups were all done from my XP partition. I copied all my databases except this one which appears to be screwed up. The mdf file cannot be found on XP although I can view all tables and the database itself in Server Explorer in SSMS in XP. Also for your info it is SQLEXPRESS. I posted this question over there but nobody seems to be able to handle it. OK, now it this: I do not have logical name. When I tried recovery with a similar command I got an error that ... I do not quite remember the format but the content was that I should run RESTORE FILESLISTONLY to get logical names Does it sound right I did this and got a table with some of the ndf's and one mdf file but the mdf is not this database name. It seems to be a name of database that I created months ago but then deleted. Also I tried to RESTORE from SSMS (Sql Express) by pointing to Databases in Server Explorer and rightCLick==>Restore. The darn thing is with this security obsessed Vista I cannot find a way to cancel this persistent error that "Access is not allowed" when I point later to the backup device. I am the administrator everywhere. I gave permission to a bunch of user groups (for the .BAK file, etc.) but it all seems to be in vain. It is just a horror story with this Vista. I guess my question is: how can I get the logical name. You see, I can read the stuff you showed me in MSDN help myself but I need real life examples to implement them. I do not seem to have them. The examples they give do not seem to fit my particular situation. Even if you explain to me how to get the logical name for this DB most likely it will be wasted since the Vista (or SSMS) again will say that "Access is not allowed.." This is a comprehensive run around. I am the only user of this workstation with low security DBs used primarily for crunching floating point numbers and I am facing such a hard time doing simple things. It is preposterous. Hi all,

please help me!! I've downloaded and installed the express edition file (SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services - 234mb) but all I'm getting on the program menu are the configuration tools! Something appears to be missing - can someone shed any light on this

You need to download and install the SQL Server Management Studio Express.
