    - Dimension, CurrentMember and a hierarchy It turns out that the RS designer is a pain in the sense it wants you to explicitly select a hierarchy & member so it knows what fields are returned from MDX. It doesn't check the validity of the items during runtime, it passes the values into MDX and lets AS take over. I have the ability to get done exactly what I am looking to do. Right click on the HOME and select New data source Under General tab, give name & discription of the new data source. Data source is the place where your cube resides and Initial Catalog is the database name. (Provide the sting like this ---->> Data Source=http://Server/olap;Initial Catalog=DB_TEST) Check the Windows Integrated Security radio button. Select OK button to create the Data Source. After creating the Data source, right click on the created data source, select Generate model. This is how u can generate report model, which can ve used for generating the user defined reports.     - Log files grows indefinitely and causes ETL to fail Hi, Might be worth raising this in the SSIS forum, but have you tried reducing the number of events you are logging. I think by default it logs all events, I'm sure most of the events are redundant and you can reduce the number of outputs into your log by simply turning them off.     - Parameterized connection string & parameters - problem Hi, I＊ve created a report which utilizes two stored procedures to populate parameter dropdown and fill report itself respectively. Report works fine until I create parameterized connection string. When datasource (not shared) has parameterized connection the parameter dropdown is greyed. I＊m getting error: ＆error during processing of the ConnectString expression of the datasouree ＆name＊＊. It works fine when I＊m using only one stored procedure (no parameter dropdown stored procedure is executed 每 report has only one dataset). When I have installed Sql 2005 on this Vista Machine and then applied SP2 it kills Vista to the point it wont even start in Safe Mode - It will come back when using Last Known Good Configuration but this leaves Sql Server without the SP2 and it doesnt run very well - Compatability issues and all.     - Parse XML to load files inside them The Foreach Loop Container can do this. Drop one onto your Control Flow and open it up. Set the Collection Enumerator to "Foreach NodeList Enumerator". Set the DocumentSourceType to FileConnection and select your "file name lister" file for the DocumentSource. EnumerationType is NodeText. OuterXPathStringSourceType is DirectInput. Set OuterXPathString to "/Node/Root/XMLFileName". Now switch the to Variable Mappings page and create a new variable (maybe name it XMLFileName) and map it to Index 0. Now the foreach will read your file perform an iteration of the loop for each occurrence of the XMLFileName element. The value of the element (the file name) will be placed in the variable. You don't say if you're actually trying to connect remotely or not. If you're connecting remotely, the issue is likely your firewall is blocking the connection.     - password cannot be saved The password in a SQL-authenticated connection is considered sensitive data. SSIS wants to encrypt any sensitive data in the package (see ProtectionLevel ). By default it does this with your user key. Unless you've changed the ProtectionLevel, you should be able to save the package and reopen it (as the same user) and have it preserve your password. If you're going to be opening it from an application, your best bet for ProtectionLevel is probably to use the "EncryptSensitiveWithPassword" option, which uses a password to encrypt the sensitive data. The application (and any users) will need to supply this password when opening the package. As far as SSMS not being able to change this, that can be attributed to the way we validate the input. Validation happens either when being keyed in manually, or read into the value.     - Sorted Input This is actually by design. The layout code will check to see if you are seeing the input as sorted and return that information to you instead of the actual values that are on the upstream columns. I think this is best seen with an example. Say you have data from upstream sorted on ColumA (1) and ColumnB (2). If you mark that both columns are used (via SetUsageType) then you will get those SKP values and the IsSorted property will be true. However, if ColumnA is marked as ignored (not used) then the layout will see that you are not using the sorted column so to you the data is not sorted and, therefore, the layout will return that IsSorted is false. If, on the other hand, you had ColumnA as RO or RW (used) and ColumnB as ignored then you would get that IsSorted was true because you are looking at a column that does make the data seem sorted to you. This is also why the virtual input shows the SKPs. It is because all the columns are available so the data would be sorted while using those columns. (Are you able to access the Server -but not a specific database ) IF so, using SSMS, in the Object Explorer pane, right-click on the Server, and then select the [Security] tab. Change the authentication method there. If you are not able to access the Server using SSMS, it may be just as quick for you to re-install (or) let us know so we can walk you through the process. A buffer contains a fixed set of rows and usually is about 10000 rows (usually slightly less than that actually - for reasons I won't go into right now). By default, the OLE DB Destination will commit rows a buffer at a time so if one row fails, all rows in that buffer fail. You can change this behaviour by setting "Rows Per Batch"=1. This will mean each row will get committed a row at a time so at the point of failure you will get 44999 rows in the destination. Hello,

e.g : I have the dimensions order.date , delivery.date based on the dimension date.

When i browse the date dimension in the cube browser or in excel, and i select the year attribute from

the dimensions it just shows year in the browser and I really want it to show order.year and delivery.year

Our real cube has more than 10 shared time dimensions, so it can be really confusing to users when

they are browsing , does anyone has an answer

Unfortunately there is no good answer for this. What you are talking about is called "role playing dimensions" (where one date dimension can play the role of order date or delivery date). In SSAS 2005 there is no way to rename attributes within a role-playing dimension.

Your only choices are to either live with it (which I agree, can be confusing) or to create multiple dimensions with different attribute names (which is not ideal from a maintenance/resource usage perspective)
