I'm new to SQL Server... I just need to start learning how to use it... because it is being used at work... Don't need the all the features installed, just the normal table and query for the moment...

I will be installing it on my PC... i

Tried looking everywhere for the answer... lol (even looked at YouTube for a simple installation video....

You are running the wrong operating system to install the developer edition because you cannot install reporting services in XP home because it comes without IIS. And I also thinks you need more hard disk space, hard drives are cheap see if you can upgrade the hard drive and at least 1gig of ram. XP home only comes in x86 so that is the version you install SQL Server developer edition x86 but reporting services will be disabled because you don't have IIS. Copy everything to a folder in your c drive it is about 1gig and run set up from the C drive don't answer questions you just answer those relevant to you.

Copy content to your c drive go to x86 then go to server and on the right is setup double click setup and you go from there it is not complicated. It is the easiest SQL Server to install I have installed 7.0/2000/2005. I don't do IM. Hope this helps.

You can install SQL Server Developer Edition on Windows XP Home Edition SP2.

You may refer the following link to be sure of this:
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143506.aspx

12 or 11GB is enough for testing purposes.

You LAPTOP must be 32Bit so you must choose "x86 operations systems" option.

Anything else you wonder

You cannot install reporting services without IIS that option will be disabled by the installer, that link will not tell you that.

As you know, you do not have to be installed IIS to setup SQL Server. IIS is just used for Reporting Services.

The above was my first reply to this thread I have covered that.

He says that he is a newbie and wanna learn something about SQL Server and doesn't need all the stuff to be installed. So, he just wants to install this piece of software. I'm sure he can survive without RS.

Not looking for a nonsense discussion and don't have any problem with you. Peace mate.

(SQL Server Database Services and Workstation components, Books Online development tools)

This will give you the relational engine and SMS. Hope this helps.

If you want to install the basics, then you'll choose the following:
- SQL Server Database Services
- Integration Services

And then click the Advanced button and do not forget to choose Management Tools from Client Tools. Besides, you better choose Sample databases from the Advanced window.

They'll be enough for a start.

On the Service Account section...

What should I click / Enter

Username

Password

Domain

Under the.... "Start Services at the end of setup" section, what should I tick

SQL Server (tick already placed)

SQL Server Agent

SQL Brower

Many thanks

Choose local system account and also check the box next to the Agent because some operations are Agent dependent like replication.
