    - SSRS Performance Hi All, I am facing an issue while working with huge data in tables. I have a stored procedure which when exceuted on SQL Server Browser takes little time to display the output on the screen. The same stored procedure is used by the application with SQL Server Reporting Services to generate the report. When executed, the application stops responding after sometime. After debugging steps by steps, I found that the dataset fetches the records from database using stored procedure takes around 11 mins and application stops responding while generating the reports.     - Wat's the effective way to improve performance in table using indexing? My approach would be to make transaction_date the clustered index and transaction_id a non clustered primary key. That should give the best performance for reading records by date as the data pages will be in the order you need them in. Depending on your queries using the Included Columns feature may give you want you want. You could create a non clustered index on the date and then include the amount in the index, this will put the amount into the index pages together with the date and remove the need to perform a second lookup from the non clustered index to the data pages to get the amount. So getting the totals by date will only need to read the index pages, which will be more compact (and so have a shallower tree) than the index pages as each row will only have the id, date and amount. If you have some natural partitions in the data, such as users then to query data within a year then it may be handy to use a horizontal partition. But I would look at tuning the indexes before partitioning. Make a copy of the table, change the indexes and run the same query against both tables with the "show actual execution plan" option turned on in SSMS. I suspect that either the impersonation is not working the way you expect or that the impersonated user does not have permission to do the SSAS processing. I recommend you test these scenarios by a) having your stored procedures log their user context to verify that impersonation is working, and b) log in to the SSIS machine with the user account in question and try to run the package directly to verify the user has permission.     - SQL Reporting Services performance on navigation pages. The SessionTimeOut parameter is definitely a remedy to the situation, but it doesn't really help in identifying why it would take so long even to load the first page of the Reports Manager. You asked if this was a report builder report, it is not, but even so, I don't have a problem recognizing that a given report might be slow depending on the database structure and volume of data. To the contrary, when I do actually run the report, it executes pretty fast. The link I referenced in my previous post points to an explanation linking the problem to the way that IIS starts it's process and it gives a possible solution to set up a call to the reportserver every few minutes, but that seems like a band-aid solution, albeit maybe the only real answer at this point. I have other applications using IIS and none of them has this issue. The pages load immediately, no matter how long it's been dormant. this leads me to believe that reporting Services has some background activity going on that requires more than meets the eye.     - excel data mining add-in for categorical data Thank you very much for your previous answers conserning clustering algorithm. I change a bit my data and now I can get two and three clusters as I wish. But now I have a different question. I wish to keep my Structure and Model for further trials with different algorithm values, like cardinality. I tried the following I selected in excel Data Mining and then the option cluster button. Then in the cluster wizard I chose analysis service data source and I reform the query as I need adding only at the end where "STAFF_YES" = 1. Then I choose the needed columns and target value. Finally I select browse model, enable drill through only and I finish the wizard and get some results, rather good. But i need to try again with different parameters. I tried Business intelligent Studio to check my Analysis service.     - can't (re)start SQLServerAgent after changing its logon credentials Since Copy Databas Wizard failed to copy anything from remote SS20005 (both are with SP2 3054) in any combination, I changed SQLServerAgent(myinstance_name) to run under Network from Local System with the help of SQL Server Configuration Manager For this change it was restarted, failed to start again and continues to be stopped giving "SQLServerAgent could not be started (reason: Unable to connect to server '<mymachine_name>\<myinstance_name>'; SQLServerAgent cannot start)." I changed SQL Server Agent (myinstance_name) back to Local Service, then to Local System and still can't start it. No, because the JOIN clause works the same as the WHERE clause so there is actually not much difference between them except for the time of filtering (JOIN occurs before the WHERE). But lets focus on the intention of the query because I think there need to be a better way. If I get it good, you want to set COL_A and COL_B to the values of table2 with the same value for COL_C and this only if COL_A is not filled in. So the task which sets up my dynamic variables is in a seperate container from that which contains the tasks using the connections. Not 100% sure why this works but it seems to. Inside that insert trigger, you would use the virtual table named inserted which will contain a row for each row just inserted into table1, including the newly generated identity value for each row.     - SSIS performance Hi, I have 4 execute packages say A, B, C, D. These packges contains packages for data transfer in turn. Package A - 15 packages Package B - 15 packages Package C - 20 packages Package D - 20 packages When i run these packages one at a time in the order A, B, C, D then the execution time is around 17 mins. If I make a parent package and put A, B, C, D in sequence in it, executing this parent package increases the execution time to arnd 50 mins. Pacakge A, B, C, D doesnot run in parallel. They run one at a time. So i was wondering why the there is so much time difference. Please let me know if theres some configuration settings to make the parent package efficient.     - Sending email through Reporting Services Abhi, the fact that it is a "valid email address" is only relevant if somebody presses a Reply button when receiving your e-mail, if a receiving server wishes to send a bounce message, etc <s>. I am not sure that Execution Account is relevant here, I don't recall asking you about it but I may have, because it may make a difference for creating file attachments. In any case this has nothing to do with the e-mail per se. It is just supposed to be a Windows user with sufficient rights to do stuff like creating file wherever it needs to. Make sense I can't tell you how to set up your mail server because I know nothing about your environment. There are basically two choices: pickup from location and network. This is specified in the SendUsing node. (IOW, it sounds like you think that RS has a built in mail server of some sort. It doesn't. You have to tell RS what mail server you are going to use, and configure its access to that server, just like you have to configure Outlook to talk to some mail server.) Are you testing or is this a production server The rest of what you need to specify depends on the SendUsing. Again, read "Configuring a Report Server for E-Mail Delivery" in BOL. BOL = SQL Server Books On Line. I was giving you the name of the relevant help topics. THere is a top-level one called Reporting Services Configuration Files which will link to the others and each one will tell you where the files are.     - Copying database using "Copy Database" I notice that no one from Microsoft has answered this problem. It seems to me the Copy Database Wizard is completely ignoring the fact that I am always trying to deselect the logins. It just happily tries to copy them even though it's going to a development machine that will only see 4 of the 100 logins on the production server. I struggled with this problem for days and was crossing my fingers that it would be solved in SP1, sadly it's not. Detaching is not an option for production databases!!! Fix this Microsoft!!! Dear folks, The AS cube project was working fine fine months without any errors on process/deployments, but I opened the project last week and here's what I found. The project still processes and deploys fine - but in Edit mode, I don't like to see these yellow triangles. When I open a dimension in Edit mode - I see this message on the message window at the bottom, and a yellow triangle on cube hierarchies. " This dimension contains one or more redundant attribute relationships. These relationships may prevent data from being aggregated when a non-key attribute is used as a granularity attribute in a cube. Verify the following relationships and delete those that are n ot needed: [Portfolio] -> [Portfolio Global Group]; [Portfolio] -> [Portfolio Description]." Hello Everyone,

I am trying to personalze my reports for each user, for example: Say I have a report which takes in userName as a parameter and then generates the report. Is it possible to use the same userName that the user used to login to the reporting services enviornment. This way the user don't have to enter their userName to see the report, it will be entered by default.

I am still not sure where to use this field.

My question again is:

When a user login to Reporting Services, he/she has to enter a domain UserName and domain Password. I want to know if it is possible to grab that userName and use it as a default value for my parameter.
