I have subscription records for five different magazine titles that i process by looping each one though a dataflow using a for-each loop. I am using the following instructions to append to the raw file: http://blogs.conchango.com/jamiethomson/archive/2005/12/01/2443.aspx

This works fine when I pass four different magazine titles. when i try to run all of the titles(five), i get the following errors:

[Raw File Destination [131195]] Warning: The parameter is incorrect.
[DTS.Pipeline] Error: component "Raw File Destination" (131195) failed the pre-execute phase and returned error code 0x80070057.

Any ideas

Thanks.

Frank

When you run for four titles, does it matter which one you leave out In other words, is there one particular title that always causes a problem

Can you run it just for that one title

I've tested leaving various titles out, but there is no one title that won't run. I can run any title by itself or i can run any combination of four titles. adding the fifth title always causes the error in the first message.

I did some additional testing: I ran all titles from 2000 to present and it completed successfully. Previously I had been running the full set of subscriptions back to 1978.

Is there any kind of size limitation regarding a raw file when I run the full set(1978-present), the raw file is typically around 5gb when it fails.

There isn't a documented limit. I'd be surprised if there was one. Perhaps you have found a bug

Apologies for asking what is a fairly patronising question but you have got enough disk space haven't you

No apologies necessary. The drive I'm using for the raw file has about 130GB free.

Right now, I'm pulling records from 1997-present and i'm able to run all titles. It's when i run everything that I get the error consistently.

Well I'm a bit stumped I'm afraid. I can't think of a reason for this not to work.

I'm guessing now but could something be locking the raw file You're not trying to write to it from 2 different places simultaneously are you or perhaps read from it whilst you're trying to write to it.

Sorry, can't think of anything else. This seems rather strange!

I'm also left wondering what parameter the warning is talking about.

Actually, I've just realised that the message you left at the top of this thread is a warning. Do you have an error message as well (Look in the Output window).

I've also done a search for error code 0x80070057 at the SSIS error messages page: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms345164.aspx

and couldn't find anything. Though that list hasn't been updated since Dec 2005.

Google isn't much help either: http://www.google.co.uk/search hl=en&q=0x80070057&meta=

Re: Problem appending to a raw file

No, I'm writing to the raw file in one data flow and then reading from it in a later data flow. very basic.

I'm going to try running it with all records to see if the raw file size reaches a certain threshold before erroring and also to get the exact error from the output...

Did you find an error message as I mentioned in a post earlier today

This is the error I am getting:

Warning: 0x80070057 at Process CIR Tables, Raw File Destination [131195]: The parameter is incorrect.

Error: 0xC004701A at Process CIR Tables, DTS.Pipeline: component "Raw File Destination" (131195) failed the pre-execute phase and returned error code 0x80070057.

Damn, not very helpful at all.

Sorry, I'm completely stumped.

Re: Problem appending to a raw file

Yes, me too.

It does seem to have something to do with the amount of data I am trying to process. If I run 1992-present, it works. If i process 1990-present, it fails consistently.

I guess my first avenue of investigation would be to identify if there a certain data volume at which it always fails. Keep reducing the data bit by bit until you can pinpoint the exact number of rows on which it fails. If that is consistently the same number then you've really got something to go on.
