    - Table design question I have two identical tables: RCO and RI. Both have the following columns: SurveyID: Integer RespondentID: Integer ItemID: Integer Score: Integer value of the "score" for that ItemID where the SurveyID, RespondentID, and ItemID are all part of a Primary key. Per SurveyID I will typically have the following numbers: RespondentID: 1,000,000 of ItemID: 100 of That means there will be 1,000,000 x 100 = 100,000,000 Rows per Survey. I defined the rows as above as opposed to the following: SurveyID RespondentID Item1 Item2 Item3... Item100 where the "Score" is now kept in the individual Item column this results in per survey numbers of 1,000,000 Rows per table per survey or equal to the number of Respondents. A simple query against the two tables is a follows: SELECT PKID , ITEMID , SCORE , SUM ( SCORE ) AS ScoreSUM FROM RI WHERE ITEMID IN( 3 , 4 , 6 ) AND PKID IN ( SELECT PKID FROM RCO WHERE ( ITEMID = 3 AND SCORE = 382 ) OR ( ITEMID = 3 AND SCORE = 391 ) OR ( ITEMID = 3 AND SCORE = 55 )) GROUP BY PKID , ITEMID , SCORE ORDER BY PKID , ITEMID , SCORE We will need to cross the tables (using joins instead of above but the above was quick and easy to write) returning PKID, ITEMID, SCORE, SUM(SCORE) from RI based on Scores in the RCO table for particular ItemID's.     - Inconsistencies in FOR XML and Typed XML Schemas I'm writing an extract procedure that extracts data into nested XML. This XML is then passed to another SQL 2005 database that needs to consume it. However, this is not working and below is why. I'm hoping someone has a solution. One of the fields being extracted is datetime. As I've found and read, this causes problems. However, the bigger problem is with FOR XML. The statement extracts dates in the format: 2007-02-07T18:51:29.890 A typed XML schema requires there to be a time zone on the end in the format: 2007-02-07T18:51:29.890Z In order to validate that the XML is still valid from one database to the next, I need to create a typed schema, then load the incoming XML file into a column using that schema. As I'm sure you can tell by now, it fails. There are hundreds of articles on the fact that is must be valid and can't use sqltype:datetime but rather xsd:DateTime, but why doesn't FOR XML extract it in the right format to begin with My issue is in the inconsistency in the process. I should be able to extract data using FOR XML and import it into a typed XML schema column WITH NO CHANGES OR ISSUES with the extracted data! I should also be able to do this all with T-SQL and not use any other method (including XQuery and convert) to manipulate the XML first.     - Create Report.rdlc in vb.net dynamically thanks for your quick reponse. They are all of the same type varchar.I do not need to total them up .The fields are Fleet manager,Subfleetassigned,home cost center(I don't have to do anything with this but format it to currency.),Product service date(format to date),Group1, Group2,major control type. I have been trying to accomplish this using the Visibility report property. In that case if the user chooses col1,col3,col5 then my report will not rebind the rest of the columns meaning my report will be col1,Blank,col2,blank,col3. if you could tell me a way I can make this col1,col2,col3 that would be great.Samples of the code I tried is IIF(parameters!fieldsDisplay1.value=true,true,false). The main work of this DB is to give results for search-queries. Each table will have up to 15 columns of different Datatypes and could contain up to 1.000.000 records. example columns of a Table: ID(int), guid (Uniqueidentifier), Subject(varchar(max)), Body(varchar(MAX)), IsComplet(bit), Startdate(DateTime), EndDate(DateTime) and so on... Typical searchqueries may be ("give me all items of a specific StartDate wich are complete" or "Give the item with the guid 'xxx-xxx...'. But also other combination are possible. Currently there are indices for the ID and guid columns. The users I am dealing with are local to this server, it does not appear to be a domain server or to be part of a domain. I can understand that my problem is to do with the security setup, but I can't get my head around what the difference is between accessing from Internet Explorer and accessing via Management Studio. It must, surely, be something to do with security for IIS rather than Reporting Services itself If so, can you give me any clues as to which permissions I should check and where I can't tell whether it's withing IIS or some local policy on the server that is blocking the access. Hi,

I'm trying to install SQL Server 2005 onto my XP Professional PC. When I get to the "Components to install" part, the "SQL server database services option" is greyed out. Infact, all options except "Workstation components..." are greyed out. I've tried uninstalling all previous versions of SQL server and trying again, but with the same results.

any help would be much appreciated

It could be you are installing the Enterprise edition which you cannot install on XP or IIS is not installed so SQL Server installer is skipping all dependent components which was only Reporting services. The link below is Microsoft System requirement page for SQL Server 2005. Hope this helps.

you shud have XP with SP2 inorder to install sql 2005............

Which is the SQLServer edition u have. IF its Enterprise Edition, then u need server version of OS (windows 2000 svr sp4/2003 /vista etc) to install database services. You can only install client/workstation tool in XP.

You can install other edition in XP. You can download SQL Express and install.

Enterprise edition is not supported on Winxp. You can download trail pack and install it on Winxp SP2.
