    - Using SQL Server 2005 DM Add-in without Windows authentication I fixed the problem. First, I created a brand new web site in IIS. The default web site was somehow 'controlled' by sharepoint (I removed custom http headers and so on, but SharePoint would mysteriously be in the request-response loop). Then I had a problem with the .NET Framework version. I had conflicting .NET versions (32- vs 64- bit version of the .NET 2.0 Framework). That caused problems to my app pool in IIS (and to ASP.NET). I followed some steps to set the default .NET Framework version. After IIS was setup correctly I was able to connect from the add-in to the SSAS instance (through the HTTP pump).     - PDF Rendering bug We are trying to publish a group of financial reports using SQL Server Reporting Services. We have hit a snag when we try to render the reports in PDF format. The leading spaces of each line are stripped in the output file. (Often tables have columns such as [CreateDate], [CreateUser], [ChangeDate], [ChangeUser], etc. so as to clearly indicate that it is metadata and not part of the dataset.)     - Merge replication reinitialization deleted all data Hello, When I reinitialized a subscription from SQL2005 db (publisher) to a SQL 2000 DB (Subscriber) and had the Upload changes before reinitialization turned on, the data from the SQL 2000 db didn't get uploaded. This resulted in a loss of 2 days worth of data. Does anyone have any idea if there's anywhere that data is kept.     - Adding a article causes ALL articles to be refreshed I have setup Transactional replication in SQL 2005 between two servers and have about 200 tables being replicated. The problem is that every time, I add or drop a table to replication, and start the Snapshot agent, it re-initializes every article and re-loads every article. This process takes 1 hour to complete and CPU usage goes to 100% during that time. This behaviour seems very different from SQL 2000 where I would start Snapshot agent and only the relevant tables were added/dropped.     - Making a report smaller...? Alright. I'm stuck. I admit it! I have a bunch of names, and each name can have one or more 'roles'(operator, reader, key operator, etc. Just random words really.) attached to it. Using reporting services, I've managed to get the information I need with relative ease... the only problem is, with 900 some records to display, it's current length of 41 pages with just one column going down the left side of each page is not exactly preferred by my superior (can't say I blame him really. Looks kind of odd!) It looks like this right now: Name1 Function Function Function Name2 Function Function Name3 Function Function etc all the way down to page 41 I need it to look something like this: Name 1 Name 4 Name 7 Function Function Function Name 2 Name 5 Function Function Function Name 8 Function Function Function Name 3 Name 6 Function Function Function Function etc. Or some variation of... I've fiddled around, and merely adding one extra column to the initial table-layout with the same =(!UserName etc) just merely replicates the data in the second column... not giving me the new stuff.     - SQL Server Windows Auth for ETL called by CreateProcessAsUser Hi, We've set up Kerberos Authentication for this. We used KB/articles regarding Kerberos/constrained delegation. I said that we solved the double-hop issue because I am now able to login the Web App and the DB server using my identity. Also, when running CreateProcessAsUser, it says on the trace logs that the "creator" of the process was my Identity. Also, in the Windows Events Log, in the information/warning/error messages for the ETL, it says that the "Operator" is the impersonated identity. Thanks.     - SSIS Randomly Empties Out Column Data While Using Flat File Source I'm having a problem using the Flat File Source while using the underlying .Net classes to execute SSIS Packages. The issue is that for some reason when I load a flat file it Empty's out columns randomly. Its happening in the Flat File Source Task. By random I mean that most of the times all the data gets loaded but sometimes it doesnt and it empty's out column data. Interestingly enough this is random and even the emptying out of columns isnt a complete empty, its more like a 90% emtpying. Now you'll ask that is the file different everytime and the answer is NO. Its the same file everytime. If I run the same file everytime for 10 times it would empty out various columns maybe 1 of those times.     - Best Practice for Counts/Distinct Count Measures for Filtered Data Let's say the Count/Distinct Count measure is based on filtered data. When the situation allows, is it better to do a CASE statement with 1s and 0s from the table in the DSV and then do a SUM on this field Or is it better to create a new Named Query in the DSV filtering out the data through the WHERE clause based off of the original table and then do a DISTINCT COUNT measure on the newly created Named Query If there's no clear cut answer as to what is the "better" approach, please offer up the advantages and disadvantages for both. My preference is best performance. An Example : Measure: Active SKU Count Products dimension has product_key, SKU and Status In the DSV for the Products dimension, should I add a CASE statement: CASE WHEN [Status] = 'Active' THEN 1 ELSE 0 END AS [Active Status] Then create a new SUM measure based on the Active Status column.     - another dynamic assembly loading problem (XmlSerializer) TCHEN, You are absolutely correct; I too was able to get the assemblies to load by ONLY putting them into the GAC and NOT attaching the XmlSerializationAssembly attribute. Now how in the heck are we going to get this to work without putting these things in the GAC This is also something I would very much like to avoid. According to Steve, SQL CLR will not load assemblies from the GAC unless the are on an internal, predefined list controlled by Microsoft. Obviously though, the GAC somehow plays a role here though; otherwise, the installation of these assemblies to the GAC would be irrelevant. Moreover, as I noted in another post, if the MVID (which gets regenerated each build) of the assembly in the GAC does not match the MVID assembly loaded into SQL CLR, you will get an exception that informs you of this. Hello

I have SQL Express with Advance report tools installed. I have download the express toolkit to use the Business Intelligence, however after I have installed the add on, when ever I select the Musiness Intelligence Management Studio I have a browser looking for the file Devenv.exe file and a reinstall is not working.

Can anyone help with this

hi,

if you are running on Vista, the problem could be related to privileges required running devenv.exe.. you can try what's reported here, even if not strictly related to BIDS ..
