    - Can I create a database schema from a DataSet and/or .xsd file? I have some questions about creating SQL Server CE databases. Based on my experiments and what I've read on these forums, it looks like there are a couple ways to create a database schema. I can edit the database schema via the Server Explorer in Visual Studio, or use an external program like SQL Server Management Studio and somehow convert those files to .sdf files. I find Visual Studio's built in tools to be cumbersome to use and limited in functionality, and using SSMS seems like a roundabout way of approaching the problem. I understand Microsoft will be releasing better tools with Orcas, but in the meantime, I'm wondering if there are alternative ways to generate database schemas. For instance, I find Visual Studio's DataSet designer fairly easy to use. The DataSet designer generates schema definitions (.xsd files), and an instantiated DataSet can both read and write schema definitions via Read/WriteXMLSchema. Furthermore, DataAdapter's Fill and FillSchema methods can be used to push a schema from a database to a DataSet. So, can I somehow go the other direction and push a schema from a DataSet to a database It seems like all the tools are there... For example, if I create the DataSet schema, could I use a small app to create a new .sdf file, instantiate a DataSet, write the schema from the DataSet to the database, and then save the .sdf file Or given the generated .xsd file, is there any way to create a SQL database from that Thanks in advance for any replies.     - sql cluster - fulltext error We have a sql server 2000 active/passive cluster running on Windows Server 2003 and within the last 6 months have started getting the following errors which eventually cause the SQL Resource Group to failover. An error occurred in the configuration monitor for instance <SQL Server Fulltext>: 80070005 - Access is denied . SQL is at the latest service pack/hotfixes. (8.00.2187) This cluster has been running fine for the past 3 years with no problems. Nothing has changed on the servers. We've had Symantic Antivirus running on the servers for a long time but the FTDATA folder and the sql data and transaction logs are excluded and nothing has changed on the configuration. We also run Diskeeper 2007 server on these servers but I can't see any problems with this. Once it fails over it will run fine for several days and then the same errors will occur and it fails over again. Any ideas on what might be causing this I can't really find anything on the Microsoft site that matches this error. Note: This has also just started happening on our test cluster which is an identical configuration. Tag: SSRS 2005 & Number of concurrent users

    - MSSQLServerOLAPService Stops MSSQLServerOLAPService Service seems to crash rather sporadically during our nightly ETL with the error of: The description for Event ID ( 22 ) in Source ( MSSQLServerOLAPService ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: Internal error: An unexpected exception occured. Internal error: An unexpected exception occured.. The time of the error in the event viewer seems to correspond with the step in the ETL that processes our AS 2005 database (Analysis Services Command Task). The job step reports success, and the data is refreshed so I don't understand why it is reporting an error in Event Viewer. The server is x86 with SQL 2005 sp2 installed. Most of them add subscriptions and subscribers through vbs or .net application. So I got some questions to ask for your help: 1. I just wonder if there are some ways for me to add subscriptions and subscribers manually through T-SQL scripts instead of programming. Because sometimes, we don't need to ask our users to subscribe our message. 2. Is that possible for NS to send notification by SMTP without adding subscription For example, I have already populated all emails from database, what I need is just to send simple notes to these emails, and at this time, I don't need users to subscribe them. I just need to get NS works as database mail at this point - only send email notification without subscription. I am not sure if this is possible.     - Control Result of ExecuteScalar The user is calling a Stored Procedure with ExecuteScalar. When the SQL doesn't find a match, I'd like to return the results of a different SQL. For Example: If this doesn't find a match: select amount from Lookup Where application = @app Then I'd like to return: select amount from Lookup Where application = "DEFAULT" My actual situation is more complex than this. The first SQL is in a CASE statement. After my CASE is done, can I check the current ExecuteScalar return value Or someone determine how many records are in the last SQL to execute Also, ExecuteScalar always seems to get the 1st column of the 1st query.     - Remote Source and Destination Performance Jamie/Phil- thanks for your feedback. It does help and I am confident that the bottleneck has been isolated to a single query for which I can reproduce the timing by running from local Query Analyzer (which repros the effect of having to pull all those records from "Server A"). Having changed all Merge Joins to Lookups (which did help), there is no question that pulling half a million rows (to perform transformation) is really expensive and I guess it makes sense- would you try to do that in a web browser, for instance No way (unless you want to crash it). So, I think the options include limiting the result set or just dealing with the 10 minute +/- duration for the ETL to run. I will also look into source indexes and I will watch Farmers webcast and if anything changes, I will report back. Thanks again for the responses- especially on a weekend!     - TempDB Well, if the drivers blow up, SQL Server don’t boot, but you can’t to create others temporary objects. One good idea is SHRINK the TempDB DBCC SHRINKDATABASE (tempdb, 10) GO And set the recovery to SIMPLE. SQL Server wouldn’t try to recreate on drivers that didn’t work.     - My SSIS problems Perhaps another way to look at this is in the context of "reasonable defaults." I would not expect the default import/export size to be 40 M rows, so I personally do not think that the package created by default should need to handle this data volume without some sort of review or modification. Still, it would not hurt to have an "Advanced Options" (or whatever - pick your name) page in the wizard that asked data size and volume questions, and set some of these properties more intelligently based on this input.     - Infinite Loop while cube processing in SSAS 2005 SP2 Hi, We build the cube, quite large one processing 4 million records of data daily. It was working fine in SSAS 2005 Service Pack 1. But recently Service Pack 2 for SSAS came out, in the releases notes it said SP2 solves some of the issues we had on the drillthrough. So, after applying SP2 on the production server, running on 32 bit Windows 2003 SP2, the ETL process is stuck. It stuck while processing the cube, on large dimension. I was wondering whether microsoft released hotfix for this issue or anyone else had this problem. I note again, that whole thing was working fine under SSAS 2005 SP1 environment, but i believe in SP2 there is some flaw that leads to infinite loop while processing the cube.     - SSAS cube deployed failed I am building one cube with one dimesion table and one fact table in SQL2005SP2. After the cube is created and I got the following error during the deployment 1. Internal error: The operation terminated unsuccessfully. 2. Errors in the OLAP storage engine: An error occurred while processing the 'Open AR' partition of the 'Open AR' measure group for the 'Solomon DW' cube from the Analysis Services Project2 database. 3.Errors in the OLAP storage engine: The process operation ended because the number of errors encountered during processing reached the defined limit of allowable errors for the operation. I then go to the partition and complete the aggration wizard without any problems. But I am still getting the same error when I try to deploy the cube.     - Lookup Functionality Hi, The source returns the same number of rows each time, but for some reason is failing to match them up when doing a lookup and thus insertng duplicates... one such example is: select * from Snowflake .     - Indexed View not used by the Query Optimizer There are three primary reasons mentioned inside the technet article (1) You are using a version other than Enterprise or Developer edition of SQL Server. Only Enterprise and Developer editions support automatic query-to-indexed-view matching. Reference the indexed view by name and include the NOEXPAND hint to have the query processor use the indexed view in all other editions. (2) The cost of using the indexed view may exceed the cost of getting the data from the base tables, or the query is so simple that a query against the base tables is fast and easy to find. This often happens when the indexed view is defined on small tables. You can use the NOEXPAND hint if you want to force the query processor to use the indexed view. This may require you to rewrite your query if you don't initially reference the view explicitly. You can get the actual cost of the query with NOEXPAND and compare it to the actual cost of the query plan that doesn't reference the view. If they are close, this may give you confidence that the decision of whether or not to use the indexed view doesn't matter. (3) The query optimizer is not matching the query to the indexed view. Double-check the definition of the view and the definition of the query to make sure that a structural match between the two is possible. CASTS, converts, and other expressions that don't logically alter your query result may prevent a match. Also, there are limits to the expression normalization and equivalence and subsumption testing that SQL Server performs. It may not be able to show that some equivalent expressions are the same, or that one expression that is logically subsumed by the other is really subsumed, so it may miss a match. Now as discussed before I am using the Enterprise Edition and thus Point No.1 is not the possible reason for the optimizer to ignore the Indexed View. Also I ahve obtained huge Performance benefits when I query the view with NOEXPAND option. Also the tables joined inside the view are large tables so even option 2 is not the valid reason. Coming to Point No.3, I dont quiet get the point over there. The thing is that the number of columns inside the Indexed View is more than what is required by my query as I am catering to multiple queries using the single Indexed View. Do you think is that the reason behind the Optimizer not using the Indexed View. Tag: SSRS 2005 & Number of concurrent users

There are no RS imposed restrictions on concurrent users. If you're running on a client OS, IIS has a restriction.

That being said, you should test your deployment because I think you'll find I/O, memory, and CPU contention will limit how many users you can simultaneously have.
