    - DW & OLAP Server Hi, I have question concerning DW and OLAP. I had DW database on SQL 2000 Server and I created AS 2005 OLAP cube. During deployment I got error, that I cannot deploy. Then I move DW DB to SQL Server 2005 on the same server as AS 2005. Then deployment worked. I just spent about 30mins searching through the forums for this and saw several posts, but I didn't find a straight answer that seems like it would work for my report.     - Large database growth out of control Yes, you are correct. This is a sample DB of the exact same type of database, but happens to be a smaller one I have in a test environment. This database has built up over the last few weeks to be the size it is now, which I thought was some what large for a very small data set compared to the 42 GB DB that runs on a much larger data set. I'm attempting to have these commands run on the actual server that has the larger 42 GB DB and I'll post the results here once I have them, however I suspect it will be similar results. I guess ultimately I need to look at why the data is inflating the database so quickly as we have seen it grow almost 1 GB in a day!     - Value and Date filter in Excel 2007 Hi, I am developing reports in Excel 2007 connecting to Analysis services cube. I have the following scenario Report has one Date attribute and a metric. When i apply Date filter option and value filter in Excel 2007 only one is applied to the data. Ex: If i apply date filter on Date attribute date between 1/1/2007 and 1/2/2007, data is filtered out properly but when i apply value filter i.e. metric > 100 ..... Date filter will be lost.     - Cant get two servers to connect with certificates kb 915852 How do you create a the copy of the database If I inderstand correctly, you have two machines, say A and B. On A you have a service SA and and on B you have a service SB, as well as a seond instance of the service SA, say SA'. Whenever you are dealing with multiple copies of the same service, you must take into account the broker instance implications. SSB is able to distiguish two services based on the broker instance. If broker instance is not specified, then the first message sent by the initiatitor will pick at random one of the possible service instances and deliver the message to it. When the first reply comes back, it will carry with it the broker instance and the dialog becomes sticky to this very servic instance (subsequent messages will specify which broker instance they are targeting). Also, your routes must specify the broker instance explictily, other wise we cannot determine which route is the correct one for a specific service instance. So in the example above: - on machine A, is enough to specify a route to B for SB - on machine B, in the SB database you must specify a route with a service instance to SA - on machine B, in the SB database, specify a LOCAL route fro SA' , with a service instance - the AutoCreateLocal route in SA' database is sufficient for SA' to reach SB When SA or SA' begins a dialog with SB, then things should work w/o any problem. When SB begins a dialog with "SA" w/o specifying a broker instance, then both SA and SA' are valid targets and one will be randomly picked When SB whant to determine explicitly if it wants to talk with SA or SA', it needs to specify the broker instance in BEGIN DIALOG. If SB never needs to talk with SA' but only with SA, then the route to SA' has to be dropped, including the AutoCreatedLocal route that exposes it automatically becaus eit is on the same SQL Instance.     - I can't get SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition working I think folks are missing the point here...SQL Server Enterprise Edition can not be installed on Vista, period. Vista is a client operating system and we don't support installing Enterprise Edition on client operating systems. I'm pretty sure this is actually blocked in the installer.     - Can a non-admin user generate "Create database" script using SMO? I posted this thread in security also. But cross posting here with hope of getting a quick answer. I am trying to generate the create database script using SMO. The issue is the user account which connects to SQL server is not SA, SMO fails to generate the "Create Database" script with error User ZZZ\User1 does not have permission to run DBCC SHOWFILESTATS. Is it possible to generate a "Create database" script using SMO when you are connecting to the SQL server using NON-ADMIN account The user login is a part of db_Datareader role on the database. I tried following grant permission to the concerned account at server level Grant view any database, grant view any definition and grant view server state. Still it fails.     - Is there a way to loop through tables in update TSQL statements, based on name criteria? I tried your code above but it doesnt seem to be doing the updates to my accounts on the server. When it gets done it says 205 rows affected but the two columns that I'm trying to update aren't getting updated. I tried changing around the code to see any difference but it does the same. One thing I did notice is that you must be referencing some sort of stored procedure when it shows "exec sp_tables_ex" I'm running this from the Query analyzer and am choosing my database where my WorkList table is, but in the enterprise manager it doesnt show this stored procedure listed in the stored procedures section.     - Help with Oralce 8 - Multi-Value Parameters Yes, the ! may be disabled -- that's not the same as an error <s>. And it's not really a problem. Your dynamic additions to your base query are going to be filter conditions and stuff like that -- not your fields list. I covered this in the walkthrough: How do I get the the right information in my Datasets list If you started this process with a non-dynamic query and you haven't changed your output fields list, you're already all set. If not, you can create a temporary query using literals, for example: SELECT 10 AS OrderNo, 'Pending' As OrderStatus ... execute that query once in the Dataset window, press the little refresh button, and you should be all synched. If not, you can right-click in the Datasets window to explicitly Add fields [.. screen shot link here] by name. In your case you can just use SELECT company as CNO from cono as your starting query. If the non-dynamic query works, then put = and quotes around it and it will work. Just because you can't always run it from that window doesn't mean it's broken. Recap: The Designer tells you that there are no fields because you haven't set up your Datasets list. If you do a non-dynamic query first, run that and press the refresh button (see above) the fields will be in the Dataset properly. Or (see above) just add the fields to the dataset yourself.     - Restore does not leave database in usable state...... I got the same error and found the only way around it was to put a while clause around it tied to a timer. Usually on the second pass it could read from the database. Just to test it out, put a while statement with a condition that will allow two or three passes, if it fails have it go to a catch statement inside the loop, so that it will continue to try again. On the second pass it should have no problems. Not pretty, but worked for me. This was the only way I found to work around this, I would love to know what else could be done.     - DROP DATABASE problem I haven't had the time to do any actual testing, but if I was to speculate a bit, I believe that this is the intended behaviour.. If I understand it correctly, the 'problem' is after a 'failed' restore - that is, the restore process has been abnormally terminated for some reason.. I would then assume that the state of the db would then be considered as 'offline'. If that is indeed the case, then this quote from BOL: Dropping a database deletes the database from an instance of SQL Server and deletes the physical disk files used by the database. If the database or any one of its files are offline when it is dropped, the disk files are not deleted. These files can be deleted manually by using Windows Explorer. ...my guess is that the above is what you're experiencing.     - Incremental process based on Action Code The main point here is that you want to process the records in the order that they occur. So, l don't think doing all the inserts followed by all the updates followed by all the deletes (or whatever order you do them in) will work. I think you are going to have to issue a SQL statement for every row in the batch. So yes, this will mean 100000-200000 SQL statements being fired. It sounds as though your processing time window (of one month) is big enough for this to not be a problem. If no records are in temp table after select I execute another stored procedure, drop the temp table and reselect records into the temp table.     - RUNNING A DTS PACKET FROM WITHIN TSQL Here is my problem: I don't have permissions to the 'master' db, thusly I don't have permissions to 'xp_cmdshell'. However, I need to output several small tables that I have created from one large table into individual text files. Now, from the documentation I have read this is easily possible with the use of dts packets. However, my knowledge of dts packets is non-existent. So, I have created a dts packet that will take the data from a table and export it to a text file. Here is what I need to know how to do: I would like all the small tables to go to their individual text files based on the file name I provide from within tsql. I would also like this to be done with the use of local tables (i.e. #tablename). I am trying to alleviate human interface and the resulting errors from the sql statements we have now. We have an elaborate db system with tables and permissions all over the place, and thusly I want this done and removed with the use of local tables.     - Error After installing SQL SERVER 2005 SP2 I was wanting to use one of the samples called stock which is a notification sample and while i was reading the instrutions from the book, it did not match the managment studio for instance after i clicked on properties on a login there should have been a database access table on the right panel but it came up with user view, by then i thought i had an older version so i tried to update it to sp2 (x64 version the others came up with an hotfix error not being a win 32 app during extracting). after i installed it along with the new updates for documentation and samples it was no longer able to connect to my sql server instance that i had been using and this error comes up An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.     - Update/Insert Date field, which did not import from Access Thank you for your suggestions and taking the time to respond.. I was so deep into trying to figure out a solution I did not have a chance to try your idea, I did however come up with something that worked for me. I used a cursor to go through the TempDateAcq Table row by row, updating the DateAcq field in my AssetTbl where the AssetIDs matched. Not sure if it is the "Best" solution, but it appears to have inserted the data I need without losing my existing data... at least as far as I can tell. Here is the code in case someone else runs into a similar issue. (Hopefully I don't have any flaws in here :-) Its been a while since I have used the coding skills ). Again, many thanks! What kind of conversions are you trying to do

Reason I'm asking is because I pull information from Excel spreadsheets all the time into SQL using packages I've built.
