    - Error: fcb::close-flush: Operating system error 21(The device is not ready.) encountered We are using sql server 2005 Enterprise Edition with service pack1 I got the following error messages in the SQL log The operating system returned error 21(The device is not ready.) to SQL Server during a read at offset 0x00000000090000 in file '....mdf'. Additional messages in the SQL Server error log and system event log may provide more detail. This is a severe system-level error condition that threatens database integrity and must be corrected immediately. Complete a full database consistency check (DBCC CHECKDB). This error can be caused by many factors; for more information, see SQL Server Books Online. fcb::close-flush: Operating system error 21(The device is not ready.) encountered. I got these errors for about 2 hrs and after that I see these messages in the sql log Starting up database ' ' 1 transactions rolled forward in database '' (). This is an informational message only.     - Call Web Service From Script Task I am trying to call a web service using the web service task and passing it variables, but even when I set variables to be Strings/any other data type, they always get passed out as objects. The call is then rejected based on the fact that there is no web service that accepts those parameter types. If there is a workaround to this problem, that would be great, otherwise I think I'm going to have to call the web services in a script task.     - Invalid character value for cast specification I have a Data Flow task that is simply copying data from table A to table B. (there is a derived column in between however) All the columns in table A are varchar(255). The columns in table B vary: floats, decimals, etc However, I am getting a bazillion errors when I run this, each of them to the effect that: Error: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005. An OLE DB record is available.     - Performance Problems Hello, i measure times for a delete, insert and select in a database with a c# program (.net). If i measure times for delete 5.000 data records I get very good times but if I delete 100 data records in a other database I get very bad times.     - recursive calculated measure I am trying to write a calculated member that is an expression of the following series: A(t) = A(t-1)*(1+R1) + a(t)*(1+R2) where A(t) represents the aggregate value of the measure and a(t) represents the value observed during the period t. R1, R2 and a(t) are all calculated members themselves that are basically the first level of calculation above my facts. At any point along my time dimension t, I will be running the calculation for either 3 months or 12 months.     - Is it possible to restore from a database backup without a transaction log backup? I neglected to backup the transaction log as part of the process of backing up the database. Now i only have the backup file for the database and no transaction log backup. When i try to do a restore on the database, i get the error on a "tail log missing" message (which i'm assuming is that it's looking for the t-log backup ).     - Query to get rows which match with all given values Hi all, I would like have your help about a query. In fact, I have a query to retrieve the rows for specific ID. Like that: SELECT * FROM TblUser u WHERE EXISTS ( SELECT * FROM TblScore s WHERE s.FKIDUser = PKIDUser ) With this query, I retrieve all users for which ones there are some scores. Now, I need to get only users with specific score. In the table TblScore, there is a column ScoreValue. This column contains a value between 1 and 15 I would like to retrieve the users having score equal to 2,4 and 6 I could add a where clause like that: "and scorevalue in (2,4,6)" But I want only users having these and only these scores, not less, not more . So if an user has the following scores: 2,4,6,8, I don't want to retrieve it If an user has the following scores: 2;4, I don't want to retrieve it.     - processing cube not pumping data I am trying to process a cube on a fact query that should return about 600M rows. When I run the processing, all Dimensions are processed successfully, and it starts processing the Facts, but no row count is shown indicating that it does not actually start streaming the data to Analysis Services. It has been running for 30 minutes and no count of processed rows has appeared. When I double-click the query and open the query in SQL Server Management studio it runs fine. Also I tried it with set rowcount 100000 and it starts streaming data to query output right away and gets to 100000 rows within a minute or so. So the query seems optimized and returns the data quickly. Also tempdb seems to be growing slowly.     - Trouble Installing Reporting Add-In for Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Hi Folks I've downloaded & installed Visual Web developer Express and SQL Server Express and now I'm trying to install the Reporting Add-In available here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/downloads/default.aspx It downloads just fine and, just as the installation progress bar is almost done and the status text says 'Registering Product', I get the following error message: "There is a problem with this windows installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personell or package vendor" Running VWD shows the ReportViewer control now appears in the 'data' group. I can add it to a form, but I cannot create a new report, as clicking on 'Design a new report' under the ReportView Tasks popup menu does nothing.     - OUTPUT - help with please I am using a dynamic t-sql string in proc1 to execute proc2, which returns an int variable named @Fatal_Error back to proc1. When I execute proc2 I use the syntax: EXEC @SQL @Params @SQL is the Proc Name (varchar) and @Params is the parameter string (nvarchar). If I include the @Fatal_Error variable in the dynamic creation of the @Params string the returning value from Proc2 is unable to convert int to nvarchar. I have declared @Fatal_Error in proc1 as int and tried to add to the end of my dynamic t-sql EXEC but I still get 'Cannot convert int to nvarchar' .     - XML columns failing to Replicate I am using Push Merge Replication. I am seeing some very disturbing behavior related to the xml datatype. An insert into a table with an xml value seems to consistently fail to replicate the xml value. The row is replicated, but the xml column is null.     - Store currency and volume in database We are creating an enterprise application for fuel, and I am fighting with my DBA about the proper way to store volume and currency in the database. We have 2 main arguments. The first argument is whether we should store costs in the database in $ and convert in the presentation layer, or to store the amount and currency in the database.     - Deploy Reports via Visual Studio 2005 This seems to be a basic issue, but I am having a problem trying to deploy a report to Reporting Services. I have setup the deployment options under the properties of the Project. But each time I try to deploy a report, I get "The request failed with HTTP status 504: Gateway Time-out" When I try to connect to connect directly to the TargetServerURL via a web browser from my client or the server itself, I can browse the structure fine. iam having vs2005 installed on my machine and i also installed sqlserver2005 dev edition on my machine...Unable to connect to Sqlserver 2000 which is installed remotely ....Sqlserver2000 is dev edition.i cudnot find Sqlserver2000 instance when i try to search for Network database engine name .......

I feel to know how to enable remote connection on Sqlserver 2000.So tht i can access this sqlserver2000 from another machine
