    - OLTP Database Design help for bank's customer table I agree with Jens. Working with the parent-child relationship works well for extensibility and you should be able to get good performance with carefully considred indexes. It will be much easier to maintain and normalises your data. I'll take a guess here and suggest that often you'll only be retrieving data based upon some form of customerID and this would appear to be an obvious key candidate which an index would benefit. With this, data retrieval speeds should be sufficiently fast though you'd obviously need to test this out. eg tblCustomer CustomerID PRIMARY KEY, Name, DOB.... tblAddress CustomerID PRIMARY KEY, AddressType PRIMARY KEY, Address1, Town....     - DBCC SQLPERF WaitStates / OLEDB OK ... how many of you run dbcc SQLPERF(waitstats) to display analyze SQL Server 2000 resource utilization How about sp_waitstats This is a very useful stored procedure that takes the sqlperf output and aggregates it over common wait types. If you've had to work on a sick SQL Server box, I've found this pretty useful to help pinpoint bottlenecks. While there's plenty written about the various wait types, there seems to a shortage of stuff written about acceptable or expected values! I am experiencing some performance problems with some procedures running on the EE of SQL 2000 w/SP3 on a server with 12 GB of RAM & 8 CPUs. Since no major locking issues stood out, I ventured to see what types of waits were occurring. Using both dbcc SQLPERF(waitstats) and sp_waitstats I found 98% of the waits where the OLEDB type. First I've never seen a single wait type be responsible for such a large %. For this type of wait, SQL Server is waiting for a OLE DB provider to service its request. High transactions or slow connection speeds in a distributed env are a big cause of these. This can be caused by slow authentication, outdate MDAC or incorrect DB Providers. (OK, I have to admit I haven't seen this type of wait before) Has anyone else encountered this type of wait I've seen various I/O Latch waits in the past but this is the first time I've seen OLEDB.     - Sql 2005 Management Studio Thanks Madhu, but you can script keys etc...in SQL Enterprise Manager (EM) without creating the associated "create table" commands. Here's how: In EM, right click database, select Tasks\Generate SQL Script The Generate SQL Scripts dialog opens Under General tab, click Show All and check All Tables Under Formatting tab, remove the check next to Generate the CREATE <object> command for each object and Generate the DROP <object> command for each object. Under Options tab, check each item under the "Table Scripting Options" section. This includes Script Indexes, Script full-text indexes, Script triggers and Script PRIMARY keys, FOREIGN keys and check constraints. When these options are set, i get a nice SQL Script with all the keys, FKs, indexes, triggers etc...on each table without the associated CREATE TABLE command. I'm just trying to figure out how to accomplish the same task using SSMO. Can this be done Tag: Deploying subscriptions on different server

As referred if you are scheduling the DTS package then make sure to check privileges for the SQLAgent service account on those process, you can start the SQLAgent using a local account with Admin privleges to complete the task.     - Jump To Report Without Running It Automatically Hi I need to be able to click a hyperlink in one report to open a linked report, but without automatically running the linked report. Scenario . I have a report showing customer details and on this page there is a link to a price enquiry report. This price enquiry report has two parameters: customer code and product code. When I click the price enquiry hyperlink in the customer details report I can only attach a value to the customer code parameter. The product code parameter is not known at this stage and would have to be provided by the user after the price enquiry report is opened (but not run). The customer code parameter should already be filled (carried in the link). When I click the link at the moment I get the error "The 'product' parameter is missing a value". My situation actually started when we attempted to create and use a local machine account to run the SQLSERVERAGENT service. I'm not sure if this brings more into play or not. I took the service back to using a different priviledged domain account to run the service and I'm not getting the errors currently. I would, however, much rather run this service as a local user for security reasons. I have not yet taken a fresh look at Microsoft's best practices on this issue [the service account], but I will be taking a look at that as well. thanks again.     - Logging Differences: Dtexec vs (Dtexecui or Visual Studio) Having a problem where I can't get "OnPostExecute" or "OnPostValidate" logging lines to appear in outputted log file when using dtexec. These lines do appear however when running through the gui interfaces (Visual Studio or Dtexecui) with the same package being run. Is this because there is a difference in logging between the two or what else could be causing this. I read that Dtexecui just runs/calls Dtexec but this does not seem to be the case as I have tested this scenario with the same package and get the different looging outputs. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections."     - SQL 2008 on Win 2008: No process is on the other end of the pipe I have the same exact problem. Just download and installed Windows Server 2008 RC0 build build 6001. Then I installed the latest katmai SQL Server 2008 beta, the July CTP version. And I am seeing the same exact error. I tried to connect using TCP/IP, Named Pipes and Shared Memory, but all with no luck... I see in my Eventlog: Event 17802, Source MSSQLSERVER: The Tabular Data Stream (TDS) version 0x730a003 of the client library used to open the connection is unsupported or unknown. The connection has been closed. [CLIENT: <localmachine>] Event 4879, Source MSDTC Client 2: MSDTC encountered an error (HR=0x80000171) while attempting to esablish a secure connection with system WIN-JEJC7Dxxxx. Hi,

I have three environments which are exactly the same. A dev, prod and backup server. Everyone has its own installation of SQL. What is the best practice to re-use the subscriptions for the other environments I know I could restore the test database but I would prefer not.
