Where can I find info on Notification Services in Katmai

Today I downloaded and installed the Katmai BOL, but can't find anything related to Notification Services...

Online MSDN is lacking this info too.

Does this mean that the current Katmai BOL are incomplete, or has NS been changed so drastically that even its name changed, or has NS been (gasp!..) discontinued ..

Thank you.

I assume it will either come in a later edition, or as a completely new feature as you suggest. Notification Services is not an option during install, and are almost completely left out of the BOL as you detected.

As I see it Notification Services is a too powerful feature to just be dropped without a replacement.

I would too be very interrested in any information regarding Notification Services.

CTP releases are works in progress and do not necessarily represent the final product feature set. We will provide more info regarding Notification Services in future CTP releases.

Thank you very much for your reply, Aaron.

...This is unbelievable: no more NS !!!... RS instead!!!..

At my previous job, I created a NS 2.0 application which had absolutely NOTHING to do with Reporting Services.
Of course, if and when NS becomes a part of RS, folks will use RS for the same purpose...
but what's the point
Does MS have a good reason for this kind of change
NS was available only for SQL Server Dev/Standard/Enterprise editions, so it was not exactly "free stuff". Therefore, there's going to be no financial gain here... But I might be wrong about that, of course.
The only explanation for this change that I can think of is a goal of making things a bit simpler for developers: once you've learned RS, it means you now know NS as well, right

NS 2.0 and SQL Server 2005 NS are supported per standard Microsoft Product Support Lifecycle. Therefore, note that the applications that you have deployed with NS will continue to work.

The key decision is that SQL 2008 will not ship with any version of NS. Plan is to incorporate alerting/notification scenarios into the RS product in future SQL Server releases.

The decision is based on architecture design choices to allow for richer support in future releases with RS.
