Lattis

My topology is as follows:

Moss 2007 is installed on one server while sql2005-Sp2 is installed on a
seperate server. I installed the web front-end of sharepoint services 3.0 on
my report server. I also changed the port of my default website from 80 to
8080 so that they dont conflict.

I run the reporting service configuration app and created a new report
database that had sharepoint integration switched on. Furthermore I created a
new app pool in IIS that has a domain account instead of network service (as
described in the microsoft instructions) and used another domain account as the
windows service identity .

After that I installed the sharepoint add-in on the moss 2007 server. After
doing so the reporting configuration app showed a green light for sharepoint
integration. I went to application management and found the section for
reporting services.

Now... allthough Manage integration settings and Grant database access work
the third option "Set server defaults" produces the following error:

An unexpected error occurred while connecting to the report server. Verify that the report server is available and configured for SharePoint integrated mode. --> Server was unable to process request. ---> The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized.

When I try to access the report server through http: i.e.
http://bla:8080/reportserver I get :

Reporting Services Error
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Report Server has encountered a SharePoint error. (rsSharePointError) Get
Online Help
User cannot be found.

My trace log file complains about the following: (around 10 times the same message per try)

Please help.. I've now spent 2 days on this and I am getting nowhere!!

Thanks!

Re: Sharepoint integration - User cannot be found??

Just another hint...

I discovered the following:

Although I cannot go into "Set Server defaults" in the reporting services options, if I go to "Manage Single Sign On" - "Manage Settings" and just press ok without making any changes I can then return and click "Set Server Defaults" and it works fine but only for one time. i.e. if I then go back to the central administration site and try to click "Set server defaults" again I get the 401 Unauthorized message!!!!

Hi Lattis,

have you solved the problem

I have the same problem, but no solution at this time.

Re: Sharepoint integration - User cannot be found??

Lattis

Nope, nothing found yet. A number of people are facing this problem but I could not find any solution.

I just hope that someone from Microsoft could shed some light into this whole thing!!!

Re: Sharepoint integration - User cannot be found??

Lattis

Since I no-one is attempting to help I'll keep on giving extra info...

While trying to export a ste collection using stsadm.exe I got the exact same error: "User cannot be found". When I looked inside the log file it looked very similar to my reporting service trace log. After searching a bit I read about people having trouble with deleted accounts. After looking at my UserInfo table I discovered deleted users of the company that performed the initial design of our site. he way they did it was to create the site at their office and then export and import it to out Moss.

Although I could not find something standing-out i.e. The siteowner to be a deleted user I'm sure that somewhere something is still attached to one of these deleted accounts.

The reason why I also think it is related to the reporting services error is because after runnng an sql profile I discoverd that reporting services actally go into Sharepoint config database and enumerate all sites. After that they run the same command on all sites. In my case the command fails when it reaches this particular site collection.

Hi,

one of my Sites have also deleted Users from a foreign Domain. The Site was restored from a foreign Domain.

That seems to be the reason for the error message.

Lattis,

Were you able to solve the problem. I am facing the same issue. Do you think its a authentication issue by any chance.

Thanks,

Re: Sharepoint integration - User cannot be found??

Prash Shirolkar - MS

In SharePoint integrated mode Reporting Services uses the WSS Object Model to determine whether a user has appropriate permissions to perform the requested operation on an RS item in the SharePoint document library. "User cannot be found" is an error returned by the WSS Object Model back to Report Server.

This generally implies that the user may not be found in or may have been deleted from the UserInfo table associated with the SharePoint site in its SharePoint Catalog DB. It has been mostly found to happen when the user that created the site has been deleted from that site. Can you try adding this user back into one of the SharePoint Groups (such as Viewers / Approvers / Designers) for this site

thanx,

Prash

Any ideas about this will be helpful.

Re: Sharepoint integration - User cannot be found??

We get the same error in our setup but no solution. The error occurs when we just enter the url for the report server in the browser:

  • Report Server has encountered a SharePoint error. (rsSharePointError) Get Online Help
    • User cannot be found
How can we determine which user is taken to access which sharepoint site How could the reporting (web)service know which sharepoint site/user we're using when we just enter the url

Re: Sharepoint integration - User cannot be found??

I was able to solve the problem by finally installing Report Server on my web front end server. When i installed Report Server and SharePoint Web server on different boxses i use to get this kind of errors. I had two options either to enable kerberos which is a bit tricky or to install the ReportServer and Web Front End server on the same box. I am not sure but i think this is caused because of the double problem.

Hope this helps

Regards,

Re: Sharepoint integration - User cannot be found??

SCOTT BROWN

I too have this issue.

I think it is an issue with populated databases and database name changes. In other words, data from the Report server ties into the content databases. I deleted a content database and made a new one with a different name and have the problem. All data must roll into the Admin and Content databases however, I am not sure how I can search all databases for key names 'former_content_db_name'. If I can find this location, I think it can be fixed.

Reporting Services

Manage integration settings - works fine
Grant database access - works fine [sometimes I get an error can not grant access to former content db name, not always though, which appears to work. This must be an issue for a Hot Fix.
Set server defaults - then of course, this gets the error always.

Please let me know if anyone finds this issue.

Topology:

Server 1:

SQL Server2005 / Report Server

Hosting Sharepoint databases.

WSS3.0 added to farm having search etc.

Server 2:

Web front end server

Does server 2 need to host the report server on the front end
