    - using IS for email notification with gmail smtp Hi, I want to setup a SMTP using gmail. How to configure it, it says, In your email client software, under Outgoing mail, set the SMTP server to smtp.gmail.com. Set the your username is yourgooglemailname@gmail.com and make sure "Use username and password" is checked. Also check off "TLS" under "Use secure connection."     - Cluster Euclidean Distance Your x and y are whatever you choose them to be. For example, the way our cluster diagram works is to plot cluster locations on a 2d plane by arbitrarily laying them out and using a "point-charge" approach to move the clusters around until they converge (or we get tired....). If you were to use such a method for identifying cluster "locations" in 2d space, you could then use ClusterDistance() (which is 1-ClusterProbability) for each case vs. each cluster to approximate where the case would land in the 2d space. You could then color the case by the most likely cluster, and you would have a diagram that looked similar to Yimin's Art of Clustering example, but with arbitrarily dimensioned cluster models.     - Question: Has anyone written a tool to convert from ANSI-89 to ANSI-92 join syntax? Frank, Thank you for your response. I understand that this is an old issue, which is why I am hopeful someone has developed a tool for it. The tool I could imaging would take the old SQL and update it to the new SQL so that I wouldn't have to do it manually. Seeing as it is parsing a query finding the table list, and the join clasues, it might not be that hard to do the re-write in code. I have asked the people at http://www.swissql.com/ about it since there SwisSQL product converts for different database dialects. I was just hoping someone may have done it before.     - data base diagram error in sql 2005 Hi, I am designing data model for already existsing tables in a datbase using sql server diagrams. While defining relation ships between two tables I am getting below error message The following data typr properties of a column 'Table A' does not match those of 'Table B' -Length select a column with the same data type properties as the related column. Intially for Table A i have varchar(20) data type and table B varchar(255). I changed table A to be varchar(255) but still throwing the same error. That should make it relatively easy for users to manually trigger a subsciption. It would be nice to be able to trigger subscriptions from the UI. As I have said, subsciptions provide a way to store different parameter settings for later execution something that many of our customers would value. Usualy the dump transaction (or Backup Log) fails only when server is backing up databases or shrinking. My problem is Backup Log satement fails even there are no database backups running.     - DW & OLAP Server Coming to grips with the way that MSAS handles credentials and processing is a challenge when first starting out. I'll try to go over what i understand and save you some time. When you create data sources in MSAS try and make (if at all possible) a concerted effort not to use windows authentication. Until you come to grips with how the MSAS service uses credentials once something is deployed, you'll be pulling your hair out trying to figure it out. If you can, make SQL server accounts and use those users names and passwords for the data sources. These will be used by the AS service on the server to which it's deployed. T he way that impersonation information (on the data source property dialog) tab is set up is confusing to say the least, and it kind of leads you to think that those settings will work for a projects ultimate deployment desination. Which it doesn't. Avoid the confusion by leaving the option set to default. When processing a remotely deployed solution, the activity takes place under the account credentials used by the Analysis Services Service itself. If you leave your data sources set to windows authenticationon the remote system will try to authenticate against your data source with the credentials of the service, not your credentials. Generally the Analysis Services Service runs under one of the system accounts, or a domain service account. Generally these (for good reason) accounts don't have access to databases, and any process activity relying on windows authentication will fail.     - Large database growth out of control Try the steps which Madhu suggested and in case your database unused space is not high for the data file and the database MDF is actually consisting of valid data, then you might want to check what type of transactions have been happening in the past two months. If there is not much unused space in your MDF file, then SHRINKFILE or SHRINKDATABASE is not going to help you a lot. Hi,

I've a function which I'm using in one of my script task. Then I do some operations and in other script task I'm using same function. If I change a function in one task then I need to do in all other tasks. Is there a way where we can write this function at package level and be able to use in any of the task.

You cannot do this with scripts in packages. You can however create a managed dll library (in C-sharp or Vb) and make a reference to this dll in your script package.

Sometimes when you use SQL server or another relational DB, you could use stored procedure, to avoid cutting and pasting code in several package scripts.
