    - Turning off validation 1 - A task is normally validated twice, once when the overal package is validated, prior to anything executing and also when just before it starts to execute. Validate cascades down from containers, so the same trigger for validation pre-execute that causes it to execute before the package starts is the same event for the task level container. Packages, loops and tasks are all based on teh same continer model. Setting delay validate ignores all validation request, apart from the one that must happen immediately prior to the task executing, so each tome it runs. Something has not been reset in-time for the second validation I would assume, but not sure what. What is failing, and why 2 - Don't thnk it should be required. 3 No 4 The debug option is only avilable in the designer, so it will run as you wish when scheduled or just using dtexec (better than the SQL Agent subsytem) anyway.     - Conditional checks in SSIS. You could certainly do that. You'd get the MaxGenderKey from DB1 as well and compare them in a precedence constraint to prevent any further execution. Unless you're changing your original purpose of inserting new records from DB1 to DB2, it seems simpler to just let it try. If there aren't any, then it won't find anything to do.     - Is Full-Text Index really that much overhead? I'm not buying what he's selling. Sure, FTI adds overhead but i would doubt that you could write something significantly faster with the same functionality. There are so many factors that will influence the performance of FTI (hardware, size of fulltext indexes, query frequency/complexity) that i don't think that your DBA can just say its bad. Unless of course he has already benchmarked it. I'd go the other way and ask him to provide some figures supporting the claim. The amount of time/money you'd have to invest to develop something comparable would surely not stack up compared to SQL Servers out of the box technology which is being used by many other organisations. It would take less than a day to set up some simple prototype to be able to benchmark the overhead of FTI and give you some facts to kick around.     - AWE working? After upgrading, it is NECESSARY to rebuild ALL the indexes, and update the statistics. If you have not done that, your performace will often be signicantly worse. And even then, some queries will run faster on SQL 2005, and some (albeit few) will run slower. It may be necessary to 'revise' queries that are signicantly slower in order to use the new ways that SQL 2005 produces execution plans. Or probably they need a full network infrastructure to debug one sp in sql.
