Hi,
I'm from Argentina. I'm trying to copy a SQL 2000 databse into SQL 2005 using the "Copy Database Wizard". The problem is that when I reach the end of the process I get 2 errors concerning "SQL Server Agent Job".
First error: "Start SQL Server Agent Job". Status > Stopped.
Second Error: "Execute SQL Server Agent Job". Status > Stopped.
Here's the report:
Performing operation...
- Add log for package (Success)
- Add task for transferring database objects (Success)
- Create package (Success)
- Start SQL Server Agent Job (Stopped)
- Execute SQL Server Agent Job (Stopped)

I'm no expert but it looks like SQL server agent isn't running.
Open Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio. Connect to your database. Scroll down to SQL Server Agent. Right click it and click start.
Then rerun your database copy.

To use copy database wizard the destination server needs to be having Sql Server 2005 Service Pack 2. Pls confirm the same. Refer http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms188664.aspx
May be that might be one of the reasons ! Pls confirm the same

The destination server must be running SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 or a later version. The computer on which the Copy Database Wizard runs may be the source or destination server, or a separate computer. This computer must also be running SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 or a later version to use all the features of the wizard.
May be that might be one of the reasons ! Pls confirm the same

I have all the latest updates, including SQL 2005 Server Sp2. I'm trying tu use the Copy Database Wizard in a notebook with Vista where I have 2 db servers, SQL 2000 and SQL 2005.
What I do not have is the latest Service Packs for SQL 2000, the installation I have is the one of the CD. Has that anything to do

Try applying SP4 for Sql Server 2000 and try to perform the same might work ! also try to use sql server authentication to connect to sql 2005 and see how it goes !

Ok, sorry about that.
Are you sure that the reason I can't use the Copy DataBase Wizard is because I do not have Sp4 on SQL 2000 I'm using SQL Server Management Studio... has that something to do with SQL 2000 updates

SP4 might be one of the reasons but I am not 100% sure ! moreover the support for previous versions of Sql 2000 does not exist only for Sql server 2000 SP4 it exist !

Deepak... thanks very much... I realized the SQL Server 2005 SP2 wasn't installed. After installation I could use the "Copy DataBase Wizard" without any problems.
I now want to connect my Visual Studio Solution to the new database (2005). I have to create a SQL User & Pass. but the system doesn't allow me to enter the Server inside "Computer Managment > Services and Applications". I can see there the 2 servers (2000 & 2005) and I can only access 2000. This old server has User & Pass.
I can access both using Management Studio (windows authorization).
Any idea Sorry about my english, I'm from Argentina.

I solved everything usind Management Studio. It's simply great ! It looks very much like Visual Studio. Eaven my solution runs faster.
