    - Should SQL 2005's BPool reservation size vary with "-g" startup parameter? Hello, all We are trying to work out a memory problem associated with a SQLCLR procedure we have developed. This procedure will run properly on a SQLExpress box, but fails with an Insufficient Memory error (701) when run on our 32-bit enterprise edition server on W2K3 Enterprise Server. The server has 3.25 GB of RAM, and does *not* have the /3GB switch enabled; AWE is *not* enabled on SQL Server. I initially suspected the problem was due to the idiosyncracies of how the BPool is allocated on SqlExpress and its 1GB buffer pool limitation, giving a 1GB MemToLeave region for SQLCLR allocations -- substantially larger than the default available on the server with it's default 256MB allocation (+128MB for thread stacks). That seemed to explain why a memory problem might not manifest itself on the client, but would on the server. I then altered the server to include an explicit "-g" parameter at startup, reserving 512MB for MemToLeave, but the query still fails with the same memory errors. I've tried values as high as 1GB (-g1024), but none have worked Our DBA has installed a recent hotfix associated with certain memory errors, to no avail. It appears that the server will max out the CLR allocations at 102MB, regardless of the presence of the -g parameter. Could it be that the MemToLeave region really is that severely fragmented There are still log messages indicating failures to reserve virtual memory... One thing I notice is that the buffer's VM Reserved value never seems to change regardless of the value of the "-g" option. I would expect to see it decrease by the amount specified as reserved, eg -g 768 should leave, for example, something like 1.2GB VM Reserved for buffer pool allocation, but it doesn't. That tells me I'm not really establishing a larger MemToLeave area. Is this expectation incorrect Bottom line, we don't know why this procedure is running on the server, but not in SqlExpress. It is a procedure that connects to a remote Oracle database and collects about 14,000 records, but dies after sending about 7,000 or so records when run on the server. Again, the same query running against the same code on a SqlExpress box works perfectly. Any thoughts or suggestions welcomed and greatly appreciated.     - Dumb question about compatibility level It really sounds like you are running SQL Server 2000. If you did an in place upgrade from 2000 to 2005, the default instance gets upgraded to 2005. If you installed a named instance of 2005 on the same machine where 2000 was running, maybe you are accidently connecting the the default instance that is still running SQL Server 2000. Running @@VERSION will settle the question. Also the version number of the SQL instance you are connected to will show up in SSMS. If you are in a query window, it will say something like 9.0 SP1 down at the bottom, or in Object Explorer it will say SQL Server 9.0.3042 (for 2005 SP2) Tag: table column extended field properties

I even didn't create except three user defined variabes of type Int32 and the initial values are set to Zero. Therefore, it can't be a confusion of names by any means, which is driving me crazy! Periodically all the data need to be updated to a single HQ database. At the moment, all the tables's primary key are unique and each branch will have branch ID's in the transaction tables. e.g. Branch1 data need to be updated to HQ db. However, HQ db records which are related to Branch 1 data only need to be updated back to Branch 1. other branch records should not goto Branch1. Similaryly other branch records need to be updated/replicated back to HQ database. And only records related to the particular branch need to be updated from HQ (if any changes made)..     - Cannot Login VB express and SQL express are on the same desktop. I have an application in VB that works fine.The issue I have is if I go into SQL Management to work on the DBand then close SQL Management Express. When I go back to execute my VB application I get a message like this " Login failed for "user name" file is in use by another application". If I reboot my system and then run the VB application it works OK. I've tried doing a disconnect before I exit SQL Management but this had no affect on the problem.     - SQL Server dropping comma in German language All, I've a VB6 application that writes data to a SQL Server database using ADODB in the VB6 code. My market has been the United States. My application is written for the English language. I've a new user in Germany. Unfortunately, every number that contains a decimal is now stored in the SQL Server database with the decimal dropped. For example, 29.15 gets stored as 2915. I've done some searching and found the culprit is probably the OS Regional Language setting. The Germany user is using German. So it seems ADODB is expressing "29.15" as "29,15", and SQL Server is having a fit when ADODB is trying to write to the database. My client is reluctant to changing all their user profile language settings to German (or the other option, changing their German language setting decimal symbol option to "."). They fear other applications may be affected. Can anyone suggest a solution on my software end Does ADODB have some options of which I'm unaware that will ignore the regional language setting and express decimal-containing numbers simply as "." Right now, I need add "list" control on the top of those rectagles(including all the tables) so all the rectangles have list as parent I don't want to start over to just for adding the list.     - Printing in Reporting Services hangs Am having exactly the same problem as described - Report Services hangs on Print or Preview.. It used to work a few months ago - now exactly as described... *** We can print to files without issue - only when we try to print to a real printer does it hang forever. It doesn't matter how big the report is, 100 pages or 1/4 of a page, same problem. We do the following: 1) Run the report 2) Click the print button 3) Select a printer and press ok 4) "Printing Now..." dialog box appears 5) "Print Error" dialog appears and never goes away - and nothing is printed out. For each "Field definition" I can define "extended properties"

So the question is, from a stored procedure in C#, how can I read through the "Field definitions"

looking for an extended property of a specific integer value

I am fan of SQL Server SMO, so you could co with either the SMO stack to get the information, or use Select statements to extract the data. Do you have a prefered way

BTW, is the procedure written in C# That would narrow down the options.
